Acne: Hockney Socks
by Tim Yu
Who would've thought that the humble sock could work as an interpretation of a personality? That's exactly what Acne does with their new Hockney Socks due out this fall. Applying the same aesthetic appeal as the pop pioneer for which they're named, the footwear references his bright a bold colors and cubist-like paintings, drawing and photographs.
Known for wearing the occasional mismatched pair himself, the collection includes a couple options for the sartorially irreverent. It helps that Acne shares a similarly impeccable sense of color; they did a great job of designing complimentary pairs.

The Hockney socks will be available online in the next few days at Acne for $50 per pair.
The Walkmen: You & Me Benefit Release
by Ami Kealoha
The Walkmen's new album You & Me has already been one of our oft-played summer albums. A couple years in the making and already getting a more positive response than their last release, the band's trademark lilting vocals (with appropriate nods to Dylan) and soaring arrangements make a good soundtrack for afternoon sailing or lazy bike rides.
With the news of the $5 digital release benefiting Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center where Luca (a seven-month-old friend of the band) is battling Leukemia, there are zero reasons not to buy the album now.You can do so from Amie Street (a site of note in its own right for the market-based pricing of their music downloads), which will offer the release for the next three weeks.
Mari's Brownies
by Ami Kealoha
With adventurous flavor combinations, like Thai Coffee and Fig Port, made entirely from scratch using premium ingredients and a fudgey texture, Mari's Brownies are CH's kind of treat. We also like their refreshingly small size, making them a moderate indulgence rather than a "guess-I'm-skipping-dinner" kind.
Neatly packaged in their signature Pumpkin-hued baton boxes and wrapped with custom ribbon, the dense, rich squares make perfect gifts. Recommended flavors include Caramel Sea Salt (one of our reoccurring favorite combos) and Heat, featuring smoky Ancho and Chipotle seasonings. If you can't decide, the "Signature Six" assortment is a good way to go or try a seasonal offering.
Boxes of six start at $19 from Mari's site.
Tallulah Rendall's Viral Vinyl
by Leonora Oppenheim
When releasing a single in these digitally-enhanced yet nostalgia-hungry days, the question is often whether to go romantically retro on vinyl or to keep up with the times and opt for the free download? The British singer-songwriter Tallulah Rendall clearly couldn't decide, instead opting for both. Next week Tallulah will release "Only You," the first single from her upcoming album Libellus. Her ingenious little plan marries the pleasure of the physical object with the immediate satisfaction of the digital.
The idea of the viral vinyl is that each person who walks through the door of Bush Hall on 6 August 2008 will receive the vinyl single wrapped in beautiful artwork with a little story attached. Each record comes with a unique download number that the recipient can then pass onto friends. Tallulah says that she likes the idea of making the process of releasing a single "more magical, whereby each owner becomes involved and feels special. The people whose code gets used the most will receive a free album when released."
We love this creative viral marketing concept which packages old and new technology together, taking advantage of the benefits of both. Oh, and by the way the music is pretty good too! To download your own copy of "Only You" starting on 6 August 2008 click on this link.
