adicolor Online Winner

by Josh Rubin

Adiwin3 Adiwin2

New York-based painter Ari Lankin, 26, designed this winning pair of adidas adicolors that features a fresh purple-and-turquoise colorway and a Hokusai design—which is not only itself a perennial CH fave, but also a striking contrast to a logo pattern paying homage to the year adicolors debuted. Judged by Cey Adams, Fafi, and Crooked Tongues, Lankin's design was voted by the public out of a total of 20 finalists, the shoes will be produced in a limited edition of 25 and sold exclusively at New York's adidas Originals store. Set to release this Saturday, 28 October, you'd best start lining up now.

Lexus 460 Degrees Gallery

by Ami Kealoha

460 La

Celebrating the launch of their newest flagship luxury LS 460 sedan, the Lexus 460 Degrees Gallery opened 20 October 2006 in LA and runs through 3 November 2006. Curators Shamin Momin (of the Whitney) and Sebastian Agneessens helped Lexus commission artists Arne Quinze, Miranda Lichtenstein, and Pascual Sisto to create the "Light and Speed" exhibition. Featuring Quinze's massive arcing installation made from readymade 2x4s, the paranormal photos of meditation and levitation by Lichtenstein and Sisto's dazzling mandala-like videos of freeways and cars, the show interprets car culture both literally and figuratively. Events include a Teuscher chocolate tasting, a glassmaking and silversmithing seminar and Wired magazine's gadget lab. "Light and Speed" will also travel to New York, Miami and Chicago over November, December and January respectively. More images here.

Art-O-Meter

by Evan Orensten

0Mupper 0Arrtopmet

A project of Brazilian MIT programmer/designer Marcelo Coelho from 2003 that is starting to see some buzz, the Art-O-Meter is a device that scores works of art based on the ratio of the length of time people spend in front of art work to the duration of the exhibition. It operates as a clock until someone stands in front of it, activating its motion sensor and timer; an LED screen displays comments and calculates a fone to five star rating based on the cumulative viewing time.

His recent work includes explorations with "computationally enhanced materials" and "kinetic and electronically animated garments".

Young Australian artist Fleur Childs was "staying at Arugam Bay, a remote beach community on the east coast of Sri Lanka, when the Indian ocean tsunami struck. Her exhibition, "Boxing Day," is on at Sydney's Blank Space Gallery
