SSCY Tack Bag

A canvas carry-all that transforms from bicycle-ready backpack to hand-held tote

Designed to quickly convert from shopping-sized tote to bicycle-ready backpack, the Tack from SSCY bridges the gap between the two traditional bag designs. Constructed entirely by hand, the second multifunctional bag from the Brooklyn-based designer builds on a design-for-function ethos to offer a simple, adaptable bag. Wear it as a backpack on your way to the market, flip the rear buckles, adjust the straps and you've got a sturdy tote for shopping—then switch it back for the ride home.

The unique take on the classic tote design utilizes a roll top closure in both backpack and tote positions, sealed with a single clasp and adjustable strap. This consistency allows the user to carry oversized objects when used as a backpack and keep everything firmly in place otherwise. Other notable design touches include an interior zipper pocket for keys, six nine-inch-deep outer pockets—perfect for a U-lock or water bottle—and shoulder straps that double as skateboard carrying straps.

Construction-wise, the water-repellant, heavyweight canvas body can take a beating with little risk of compromising the structure, and metal hardware and buckles help hold it all together. Leather details accent the clean, muted design while offering a bit of padding on the handles and zipper pulls.
