Not long after New York City’s DJ Cassidy descended on Denver Thursday evening, flocks of young business travelers started to dance. Instead of being just another humdrum weekday on the road, Renaissance Hotels’ bash in honor of Denver’s Global Day of Discovery was definitely a Thursday to brag about. At the group's newest property, the Renaissance Denver Downtown City Center Hotel featured the best of the city—from craft microbrewers to handmade bow-tie makers— who showed up in force to show off the Mile High.
The Denver hotel, which opened in May, is set in the heart of LoDo (lower downtown), the city’s restored and vibrant neighborhood filled with shops, galleries, restaurants and bars. Partygoers got to choose from a bevy of local alcohol artisans, including fresh cocktails from Whiskey Ninja and wines from The Infinite Monkey Theorem. Representing the city’s beloved microbrewery contingent was Former Future Brewing Company, a small brewhouse located on the burgeoning South Broadway strip. (In characteristically Colorado fashion, pints of the house Countinghouse Cream Ale, created especially for the Renaissance Hotels event, were passed on trays alongside delicious finger food.)
Perhaps as a nod to Cassidy's singular sartorial style—he paired a pink blazer with a crescent moon brooch that night—the folks from vintage jewelry boutique Victoriana and Boulder bowtie-maker Carrot & Gibbs were also on hand for a pop-up shop. Not quite what you’d expect from a business-friendly hotel chain, right? That’s because Renaissance Hotels aims to pump some life, and a little culture, back into the routine, thereby putting the "travel" back in business travel.
“Traveling for work isn’t just about getting work done,” says Dan Vinh, Renaissance Hotels’ Vice President of Marketing. “You’re seeing a new place while taking advantage of the fact that work’s paying for you to go. We recognize business travelers don’t have a lot of time to go out and explore the city, and so there’s an opportunity for us to really make it easy for them by bringing what’s local to them.” If the festivities in Denver are any indication, Renaissance is bringing the finest.
