Dubbed "the Silicon Valley of the music industry" by The Atlantic, Tennessee's capital is where artists from Elvis Presley to the Kings of Leon—and even Bob Dylan—have recorded albums. The residents of Nashville made music history when they were the first to hear static-free radio after the city was granted the US' first FM-broadcasting license, way back in 1941. Today, there's always somewhere to listen to live music—oftentimes free of charge—365 days a year. This vibrant, flourishing music industry, that extends well beyond just mainstream country, is accompanied by a sweet cultural scene that's developing just as rapidly.

To enjoy Nashville means tasting staples like the secret recipe biscuits at Loveless Café (and listening to the live radio music show in their adjoining barn) or the more recent newcomer Hattie B's, whose hot chicken is so good it can hurt (thanks to the cayenne and spice mix). Top those meals off with sweets at cake shop Crumb de la Crumb or refreshments under the fairy lights in The Pharmacy Burger Parlor's garden. Nashville is also home to Jack White's creative outlet Third Man Records, as well as Grimey's, one of the best records stores in the country—proving that vinyl really is immortal. The sights to experience in the "Music City" are limitless, but we've narrowed down the choices in our guide to Nashville—including a day trip to the picturesque Fall Creek Falls State Park, just a two hour drive away to around 40 different waterfalls.
