Building on their esteemed collection, innovative programming, and an already digitally-savvy approach, MoMA continues to position itself as a standard-bearing institution of the 21st century with today's release of their free iPhone application. The mobile software integrates familiar features from the museum, like wall text and audio tours, with a vast database of info—putting everything from event calendars and a glossary to artist bios and 32,000 works of art into your pocket.

Other clever features include the ability to take a pic and send it as a postcard, and the option to listen to your own iTunes while using the app. With an in-house-designed interface optimized for looking at art on the iPhone 4's hi-res screen, MoMA keeps the art interactivity rich without sacrificing an intuitive user experience.

Download it from iTunes.
