Gallery, workshop and boutique, Emily Baker's tiny studio space Sword+Fern houses not only her line incorporating upcycled auto parts and vintage materials and lip balm. On up-and-coming Burnside Street in Portland, OR, the artisan also carries notebooks, leather crafts and other unique handmade goods from local and national female artists.

Formerly a landscape horticulturist, the organic sensibility permeates her aesthetic. Turning to antique and natural materials to create pieces with clean, modern lines, Baker makes much of her jewelry from steel automobile gasket replacements, salvaged from auto yards and polished with vinegar. Other pieces incorporate rough gems or found items such as bits of blue leather, woven together with chains for a delicate look with an edge.
