Star-Spangled Apparel

For the Fourth of July and beyond, celestial-patterned items

The Fourth of July festivities oftentimes involve celebratory outfits of red, white and blue. There’s more to Americana than that, however—and clearly more to the nation’s flag. Both striped and star-spangled items denote participation. And this year, we’ve opted for starry pieces that are wearable long after the holiday has passed. From unisex T-shirts and caps to embroidered shorts and more, we selected a few of our favorite celestial items. Apparel aside, there’s much to acknowledge in the United States—from a lack of fundamental equality to the current administration’s stance on climate change, immigration and access to healthcare. However, there’s much to celebrate too. On Independence Day it’s important to reflect on the history of the country and think about its future, and what we can all do to make it a better place. Celebrate those who fought for where the nation is today, the freedoms we maintain, and be kind to your fellow Americans (of all ages, races, genders and colors) not just this long weekend, but all the time.

UBIQ Green Dad Cap

Whether the term “dad cap” appeals to you or not, UBIQ’s bright green version ($20) is an easy-to-wear summer staple. Embroidered front and back, this cap features tiny stars arranged in a circle. Made from 100% cotton and with a brass buckle adjustment, the same style comes in several colorways, but the green feels especially fresh.

Études Page Europa Black T-Shirt

Simple and straight forward, the Page Europa Black T-shirt (€70) from Études features a screen printed starry circle (similar to the dad cap) on a black cotton jersey. Made in Portugal from fabric produced in Portugal, it’s a quality item that works in an understated way.

Kiton Swim Shorts

Made from 100% polyester (for faster drying) Kiton’s star-printed swim shorts ($192) are a take on a classic. Featuring a drawstring and elasticized waistband, these trunks sit above the knee, but not so short that they’re too revealing. The star-meets-camouflage print is playful without being too gaudy.

Saskia Diez Star Earrings

Made in Germany for Saskia Diez, these simple and minimal stud earrings ($88) are just a little different. Instead of sitting flush with the earlobe, the stars sit upright on the post—an angle that’s somewhat unexpected and very charming. Offering a more 3D take on the shape, they are made from sterling silver and are sold as a set of two.

Givenchy GV 7057 Sunglasses

Crafted from polished black metal in a classic aviator shape, Givenchy’s GV 7057 Sunglasses ($400) add some flair with the three stars on each lens. The silver mirrored lenses offer 100% UVA/UVB protection, and the design is wearable for all genders. Made in Italy, these shades are high-quality and durable.

Ports 1961 Star Print Clutch

Intended for men, but easily carried by people of all genders, Ports 1961’s star-print clutch ($225) is a subtle take on what could have been a flashy pattern. Available in brown or gray, each colorway features several hues, creating a camouflage-type pattern along with the all-over star pattern. Perfect for carrying summer essentials, this clutch will work with almost every look.

Chinti + Parker Embroidered Denim Shorts

An elevated take on classic denim shorts, Chinto + Parker’s new Indigo Denim Star Shorts ($260) are a little dressier and more playful. High-waisted, pleated and embroidered with stars, they’re a rich indigo blue and made from a cotton-viscose blend.

Saint Laurent Court Classic SL/06 Star Embellished Leather Sneakers

Bright blue glitter stars make a bold statement on Saint Laurent’s Court Classic leather sneakers ($595). Summer triggers white sneaker season and between the leather upper and the off-white tonal sole, these are a perfect fit. They’re made in Spain, listed under European sizes and can be dressed up or down.
