Leather Camera Straps
Five handsome over-the-shoulder holders
While cameras have certainly come a long way in recent years, even the most design-driven shooter comes accompanied by an unimpressive nylon strap. These typically heavily branded slings may be practical, but they're hardly making a personal statement. For those interested in a more unique and modest solution we found five leather straps to keep your camera secure and handsomely accessorized.
We’re loyal fans of Tanner for a timeless design that goes just as well with a 5D Mark III as with a vintage Hasselblad. The comfortable 4/5-oz strap is adjustable on both ends and removable with the quick slip of two brass rivets. Burnished, dyed, waxed and stamped by hand with the TG logo, the Horween Chromexcel leather strap embodies handcrafted quality. Visit Tanner Goods, where the strap is available in multiple colors for $82.
While most straps seem best-suited for lugging larger SLRs, the Compact Camera Strap from Japanese leather-maker Roberu features a much slimmer silhouette designed for point-and-shoots. The sleek, adjustable strap comes accented with brass rivets, dual buckles and a reinforced articulated neck section, and sells from Kaufmann Mercantile for $108.
Bleu de Chauffe for French Trotters
With the jointed neck support of the Roberu strap and detachable ends similar to Tanner's, this medium-weight version comes from a collaboration between French leather-makers Bleu de Chauffe and Parisian boutique French Trotters. The handmade, vegetable-tanned leather camera strap will sell exclusively from French Trotters for 95€.
