Applying the same mix of sustainability, aesthetics and function to their new retail concept that they apply to their clothes, Nau's temporary boutique opening this Thursday in NYC's Soho uses upcycled materials as the primary building blocks to outfit the space. Sculptor-turned-architect Jean-Pierre Veillet (who also designed their Portland store) scoured Brooklyn streets for cardboard, beams, pipe fittings, branches and other supplies from what he calls the "waste stream" to construct most everything from tables to clothing racks and shelves.

The upshot elegantly contrasts the warmth of the materials with the white walls and floor of the existing architecture and gorgeously ties in with the stunning exposed wood ceiling beams and rear skylight. The few new materials introduced, like the steel surfaces of the cardboard tables, come from local manufacturers.

In addition to Nau's current Fall/Winter line (and a sneak preview of Spring), the pop-up will house a selection of like-minded brands such as Timberland's (CH-approved) high-end line of boots, recycled bags by Freitag, Malin + Goetz skincare products, Loomstate, Stewart + Brown and more. Extra-curricular activities include a coffee space downstairs, experimental video projections in the rear of the store realizing the brand in moving images, and events spanning live music, local cuisine and guest speakers.
