Cool Hunting
About Cool Hunting's Redesign
Advertisment
We spent a lot of time working on this redesign (our 4th!). Our goals were simple: Let the content, not the design, shine; let you see and access nearly four years of content (nearly 3,000 stories!) much more easily; and integrate our videos into the site in a more cohesive manner.
Adobe graciously sponsored this redesign, and we are really grateful for their support and for their products, which we use every day to bring you Cool Hunting.
Here are a few new features we hope you’ll find useful:
- We’ve added lots of date-based navigation, including an all thumbnail month view (my favorite)
- We’ve improved the display of related stories
- We’ve added a keyword navigator on the left side of the screen where you can view common, recent and random keywords
- We’ve added individual author pages
- We’ve brought back weekly Cool Hunting emails in addition to daily emails
And a few things we didn’t change:
- The Showcase, an often copied feature, remains one of our favorite things. If you haven’t noticed it, it is the large box on the top of the page where we feature work by artists, designers and photographers, free of charge. If you’d like to see your work featured in the Showcase please send us an email using the contact form. And yes, advertisers can share this space but they have to offer up art to get their message across.
- Money can buy you a lot of things, but it can’t buy you coverage on Cool Hunting. All of our coverage is editorially based using the standard of “stuff we like.” Advertisers (like Adobe) make our site possible, and we clearly label their ads.
Things that we couldn’t get ready for launch but are working on and will be on the site soon:
- Pligg and ThisNext support so you can share your finds with other Cool Hunting readers
- Thinkmap for dynamic, three dimensional, relational visualizations of our content
So have a look around and let us know what you think. We’re really happy with the new design and hope you’ll be, too. Huge thanks to Joel, Russell and Travis for helping to make it happen.
