A Pomo remix of a Hall + Oates classic, a comeback video by SSION, new NVDES and more in our week of music

NVDES feat. REMMI: D.Y.T (Do Your Thing)

With a minimal but banging electronic riff, NVDES’ new track “D.Y.T (Do Your Thing)” is the first single from their upcoming EP La Nvdité Vol. 2. Featuring effortless vocals from REMMI, the song builds seamlessly into a high-energy bop. NVDES is currently on a US tour which will finish up early next month in San Diego.

SSION: Comeback

Two minutes into the seven-minute-long “Comeback,” a video that does in fact mark the return of SSION (aka pop artist and video director Cody Critcheloe) the world turns on its head. Full of surprises and beauty, the video incorporates the artist’s first two songs: the delicate “Big As I Can Dream” and the bouncy “Comeback.” The music is utterly compelling but the video itself seems to enter a whole new dimension of storytelling.

Hall + Oates: I Can’t Go For That (No Can Do) (Pomo Remix)

Remixing a beloved track like Hall + Oates’ “I Can’t Go For That (No Can Do)” is always a risk—songs like that are classics for a reason. But Vancouver-based Pomo (aka David Pimentel) has done the ’80s jam justice with his recent house-heavy rework. Pomo remains faithful enough to the original, while adding luminous, glittery layers to make it even more dance-floor-friendly.

La Poré: Sad Girl

La Poré (aka Nick Samson) debuted this past summer with “Close,” and now the ’80s R&B-influenced “Sad Girl” is getting a workout on our office speakers. The dance-floor-friendly tune is textured, and sweet—with the right amount of melancholy. Driven by bubbly synths and a glittery drum machine, it’s dance-pop at its finest.
