Friends Build a Scale Model of the Solar System in the Desert
on 18 September 2015
Upon realizing that scale photos of the solar system are basically impossible to come across, a group of friends—led by Wylie Overstreet and Alex Gorosh—set out to create the ultimate planetary representation in the middle of the desert. Using a marble to represent the size of Earth, the team needed a whopping seven-mile-long area to encompass the entire orbit of Uranus—the solar system’s farthest planet. The vastness of space and size of our precious planet become apparent when the project is finally completed and lit up through light trails. Watch the video of their endeavor on Vimeo.
