The Abandoned Architecture of China’s Largest “Ghost City”

Widely known as China’s largest “ghost city,” Ordos, Inner Mongolia boasts all the attributes of a modern metropolis—world-class architecture, high-rise condominiums, cultural institutions and more. And yet, there’s no one there to occupy it. Rapidly developed by the government in the late ‘90s, expensive housing prices deterred citizens from moving in (except for government officials and workers paid to relocate). Photographer Raphael Olivier recently visited the ghost city to capture the quiet eeriness of its abandoned streets, stadium and public spaces. Head to Fubiz to see more images.
