When craving the perfect French macaron, a bakery in South Austin seems an unlikely place to look. Yet,
chef and owner of La Patisserie by Luxe Sweets, Soraiya Nagree, fell so hard for these Parisian treasures that she left her chemical engineering career in a quest to recreate that taste here in Texas. With flavors like coconut, caramel fleur de sel, cardamom honey orange, lavender, rose and chocolate spiderweb, these crispy but chewy treats are as close to Paris as you can get in Austin. The cafe also serves up fresh coffee and a lunch menu of sandwiches and brunch pastries. A recent addition to the lineup is the CroBrio, Austin's first true cronut clone. Lezlie Gibbs, its creator, combined croissant and brioche techniques for her take on the pastry trend that celebrates the blissful union of croissant, donut, chocolate and crème filling. The storefront is a small converted home in the Bouldin Creek neighborhood, just off South First Street. Arrive early in the morning for the best selection and freshest flavors.
