Voltaic: Songs from the Volta Tour
(25 June 2009) - The queen of her own stratum, Bjork's talent is the type where we've come to expect the unexpected. As is the case with all her projects, I've been gleefully indulging in her new multimedia undertaking Voltaic as if I were discovering the Icelandic chanteuse all over again. Closing the chapter of the past powerful two years of her career, this reently-released live album is...

Continental Divide: Golden Throats
(03 June 2008) - Thick with reverb, swirling Rhodes piano and a chorus of distorted bells, Continental Divide's Golden Throats is a shabby collection of five imperfect songs—which isn't meant as a slight. The album's charm lies as much in the music as its visible seams. Most songs begin with Nathan Pemberton's hesitant vocals echoing over simple progressions on guitar or piano. His voice is the most prominent...

Tallulah Rendall
(09 April 2008) - Currently making quite a murmur on the London music scene is Tallulah Rendall. This singer-songwriter has been quietly honing her craft over the past few years, playing the odd festival here and there, but it wasn't until she was invited by the legendary Shirley Bassey to sing at her 70th birthday party last year that things really started to take off. Last week Tallulah...

Esopus

With a CD of new music in each issue, specialty papers and a hand-crafted feel, this ad-free magazine of writing and artwork strives to create a place for "unfiltered" and "un-mediated creativity." Yes, please! There's a part of us that wants to give each new issue...

February 2008 Playlist
(19 February 2008) - This time of year brings a surplus of album releases and, for us, along with the fresh tunes comes a desire to do little more than stay home and listen to music while watching surf videos. The result is a collection of new faves and old jams, both up-tempo and down, to get you through the leap year. Magnetic Fields: Distortion The first album from...

Franz Maurer: Vienna
(15 February 2007) - For those of us who prefer to hold on to our CDs for one reason or another, the problem becomes where to store them without overwhelming your apartment. Franz Maurer designed this CD shelf, Vienna, a wall unit for the design collection Anthologie Quartett. To help contrast the unsightly crooked stacks of jewel cases, he adds a hint of sophistication by housing CDs in...
