Where Design Comes From
(19 August 2004) - Where Design Comes From is a lovely site that features the work of other lovely sites. How often have you seen something great and thought, "who made that?" I do all the time. Fresh Electronic Delivery is their newsletter that brings the latest and greatest directly to your inbox. ...
Y3 by Yohji Yamomoto
(18 August 2004) - In general, I find the Y3 line from Yohji Yamomoto a little over branded. The new web site, however, is fabulous! The impact comes from the large scale, full motion animation of models walking in place wearing each of the different looks. You can rotate the models to see all angles. Reading this as I write it, it sounds cheesy. Trust me, it's so...
Nike Aloha Dunk
(15 August 2004) - Fatlace has an interview with Ian G., the founder of Kicks Hawaii and collaborator on these beauteous Dunks. Of all the Nike collaborations going around these days, this one is my new favorite. I love the Lauhala style weave on the side panel....

Nike Angus SB
(03 August 2004) - Nike has refreshed their Skateboarding site with a great new design and a better overview of the SB line. All the colorways for their Dunk, Delta Force, URL, Angus, E-Cue and FC are shown. A sucker for anything shiny, the chrome and black Angus above is my favorite. The site also includes lots of great photos and videos, plus a whole community section....

Grokker
(01 July 2004) - Grokker is a search tool that organizes results in a logical, zoom-able visual interface. By visually arranging data it's great for topic searches because it displays results with contextual relevancy. Trying to explain it is kind of silly-- just go download the trial and see for yourself. It's the best visualization experience I've had since Newsmap. UPDATE: I had to uninstall this thing because...
Grainbag
(23 June 2004) - Grainbag is a Pittsburgh based on-line gallery featuring a really broad range of contemporary work. Thanks to Apartment Therapy for turning me on to Grainbag and the work of Corey LeChat, who's piece Senescent Shaman is pictured above. Grainbag's unnamed curator also has a great blog that includes some of his/her own photography. Apartment Therapy, by the way, is a fantastic site for New...

Twexus
(18 June 2004) - Twexus is a database of over 20,000 digital photographs taken by Andreas Wacker. There are a couple different ways to search for photos, but my favorite is a feature called pairs. All it does is randomly select two photos to display side by side. More often than not, the juxtaposition is rather compelling....

Antonio Carvalho
(21 May 2004) - The wild illustrations of Antonio Carvalho have recently been featured in Pictoplasma, the character illustration book and Web site. His work is inspired by childhood fantasies of creatures hiding in the refrigerator. I think they're all pretty great, except the clowns. Clowns freak me out. But maybe that's what he's going for. Here Antonio shares a personal statement and some of his more recent...
Nike: Art of Speed

Earth Day / Human Descent
(22 April 2004) - Yes. We should all recycle more plastic, waste less water, and conserve energy resources. But that's stuff we should do every day. On Earth Day, I think we should stop to ponder how life on earth is evolving-- especially considering the increasing role technology plays in evolution. Check out the crazy digital photo art at Human Descent to get a little food for thought....
