Modern Convenience Inside Skates
(22 August 2006) - At the ICFF a couple years back, Modern Convenience's Naugahyde-upholstered skateboards caught our eye for the way they make a familiar object into a sculptural toy. Now this fresh lemon-lime colorway is available exclusively at Coolestshop for $525 and for another $500 you can pick up the coordinating Formula Werks custom-painted New Balance 574s. More images of the board here. Also on Cool Hunting:...

(07 August 2006) - Our Nike + Contest generated hundreds of entries—most of them wrong. Nearly two-thirds named Fred Lorz, who was disqualified from the 1904 St. Louis Olympics for using a car (nice try all of you claiming it was a horseless carriage), but the winner (chosen at random from the correct submissions) is CH reader NL, who writes: "Spiridon Belokas is the name of the Greek...

The Crystal Method: Drive
(30 June 2006) - For some, making the perfect gym mix can be more taxing than the workout itself. The recently-released 45-minute track "Drive" is The Crystal Method's solution for athletes who'd rather spend time building muscle than building playlists. A partnership with Nike Plus (adding something like a lifestyle element to the iPod Nano-integrated sneaker that came out last month), the famed electronic duo tailored their new...

A handheld finder tracks a proprietary microchip embedded in a ball that otherwise is equal to regular golf balls in every way. Within a range of 30-100 feet, the LCD screen's visual feedback and an audio tone gets stronger as it's closer to the ball. Included protective pouches shield balls...

Faster, Lighter, and Stronger: The New Tricked-Out Surfboards
(23 February 2006) - On 5 December 2005, a day now known as “Black Monday” in the surfboard industry, the major manufacturer of the foam “blanks” that form the board's core, Clark Foam, shut its doors, ending an almost 44 year monopoly on the market. No one knows exactly why owner Grubby Clark ceased production (he cites increasing regulations and pressure from the EPA, who denied the claims),...

When you hit the lift you can either remove the Ski Thing from your boot or snap...

(23 January 2006) - Question: What do you get when you cross Winter Olympics fever, a national broadcasting network's exclusive contract, and Macromedia Flash animation? Answer: Off The Podium - a website built by the NBC Broadcating Corp. Now you'd expect the old dinosaur on Rockefeller Plaza to build a clunky site with little content, but no; Off The Podium is an attractive and informative package that's a...

Sport Beans
(16 November 2005) - In the same vein as Gummi bear vitamins for kids and hair gel that looks like a Listerine strip comes another interesting half-breed: Performance Candy. Sport Beans are jelly beans that are "formulated with carbohydrates, electrolytes, and vitamins C and E." Nutritional information on the site puts them against the popular sports supplements (where they appear to do pretty well). And we thought natural...

Freeline Skates
(14 November 2005) - Skateboarding x snowboarding x surfing = Freelining, a new sport invented by Ryan Farrelly that looks totally whack. Freeline skates each have two wheels which are attached to a small aluminum frame with a flat top that has grip tape on top. There are no straps—you ride it like a small skateboard under each foot. Check out these videos, which show you how to...

(27 October 2005) - The Burton Ronin Espionage Jacket has everything you need to rock the mountain in style and comfort. The jacket, which is available in 4 different colorways, also has an integrated digital camera for stealthily snapping pics. We love it and will update you when we learn more. From...

Opus Foosball Table
(03 October 2005) - I know, I know, you want to pick up a foosball table for the game room, but you're disappointed with the humdrum options at the local game shop. If only you could choose the wood. Select the color and dim the lights on the playing field. Make the players look like your friends or favorite athletes (that Doppelganger technology comes in handy for this)....
