(07 August 2006) - Recently added to Beautiful/Decay's line of artist-designed tees, these two new shirts continue the brand's shirt-as-canvas approach. Australian artist Jonathan Nicol's "Conan Shirt" juxtaposes mythological icons, like vampire teeth, a woman wearing an eye patch and a skull, using a palette restricted to gray, yellow, black, and white. For Aya Kato's second Beautiful/Decay effort, the Japanese artist depicts two mermaids and their watery surroundings...

No, it doesn't include the pictures (reinforcing the old joke about reading the magazine for the articles), but it still might be the world's only government-sponsored conceptual art project. via MIT...

FUSShop
(28 February 2006) - Sometimes it seems the rest of the world gets America better than America gets itself. In this case, it’s UK online clothing and accessories store FUSShop doing its best for a peek at American style street culture. Sure it’s petty much global now, but check out the sites subversive takes on classically banal American iconography like the college tee and the P.T.A. meeting staple...

Lemon Magazine
(22 February 2006) - From the creative duo of Kevin Grady and Colin Metcalf, the team behind the lauded multi-format Gum Magazine, comes the bi-annual Lemon magazine. They call their second art-, culture-, and design-obsessed publication with a food-related title, "pop culture with a twist" and envision it as something like LIFE Magazine's little bro. If their debut "Supernatural" issue is any indication, it's a winning combination for...

Dial 'M' For Music
(06 February 2006) - The March Issue of Cargo Magazine is just hitting newsstands and subscribers' mailboxes and is definitely one to check out. In addition to being one of the best issues of the men's shopping magazine so far, it includes a story I wrote for them about music phones. The beautifully photographed (thanks, James Wojcik!) piece reviews eight music phones currently on the market—Sony Ericsson's W600i,...

SMITH Magazine
(23 January 2006) - The hyperbolically-titled "bloggers revolution" has changed publishing. Virtually free to publish, the internet phenomenon has created digital publishing, a medium that is simultaneously wholly democratic yet often schizophrenic. Now there's a mag that's unabashedly harnessing the infinite pool of online writing talent into one monthly publication. SMITH Magazine, launched earlier this month, seems to operate on the age-old adage that "everyone has a story...
