Illustrator Matt Duffin
(19 November 2008) - Trained architect Matt Duffin's sparse illustrations of symbolically loaded objects, anthropomorphic donkeys, and children's toys, are full of dark and blank spaces that make their subjects seem isolated and alone to the point of dread. Extreme sources of light up the drama of Duffin's images, and despite the storybook-ish quality of his wax drawings, they convey a sense of impending doom....

Ghostshrimp
(04 November 2008) - Though you may know him as the driving force behind the amazing Ghostshrimp, his name is actually Dan James. Dan recently took a break from his busy schedule to answer some questions for us. What is your artistic background? Artistic background. Well. Let me take off my shoes and think about that. I have to relax and pretend I'm on an airplane for interviews...

Maija Louekari Illustrations
(24 October 2008) - We loved Maija Louekari's hand-drawn illustrations even before discovering that she has worked as a freelance textile designer for Marimekko. Her HO-HOI! fabric topped the Textile Design category at the Elle International Design Awards in 2006. The Finnish illustrators work is made by hand, her favorite tools being fine felt tip pens, pencils, scissors and colored paper....

Sewing Stories Collection
(14 October 2008) - Step outside your everyday human world and imagine, if you could, the life of two parasites living large. Such is the premise behind the "Sewing Stories Collection," five Brazilian children's books chronicling the shenanigans of a perfect couple (a mite and flea named Glauber and Hilda). Written by award-winning author Indigo, each book is illustrated by a famous Brazilian designer like Alexandre Herchcovitch, Rita...

Calu Fontes Porcelain
(02 September 2008) - Distinctly and wonderfully Brazilian, Calu Fontes' painted, one-of-a-kind porcelain accessories are influenced by the lively Bahia region in northern Brazil, from where her family hails. The mix of colors with patterns — on trays, teapots, vases, plates, tiered platters, carafes and cups — reflects the cultural heart of the country. Each handmade piece is the result of a method that involves burning the painted...

The Mustaches Skateboard Deck
(22 August 2008) - I’ve been into skateboarding for about a decade and mustaches, well...not quite as long. The latest project by artist Lawrence Melilli makes a great combo of the two. Although you might have seen this around a bit, we love Melilli's current series of hand painted skateboards which all feature a distinct and classic ‘stache. Available as a one-off, each mustache is retired once it's...

Veer Ideas
(19 June 2008) - When Van Gogh dreamed of a utopian community of artists in the south of France, he probably wasn't thinking of the online possibilities. Fortunately for us (over 100 years after the painter's vision), there's Veer Ideas, a social networking site where creatives and design lovers can create original content and connect with each other. It's a creative playground defined by each participant as they...

David Shrigley: Polite Cards
(12 June 2008) - by Gabriel Bell For those with a checkered past or a wicked sense of humor we recommend a selection from David Shrigley's line of comical cards presented by the British design collective, Polite. Granted, there's nothing actually polite about Shrigley's cards, and even less that's sweet. The cards feature captions like, "It's Getting Worse," "Leave Me Alone You Horrible Freaks," and "At The Moment I'm...

Madeline Valentine Illustrations
(06 June 2008) - Madeline Valentine creates the most haunting illustrations. What makes the Brooklyn artist's work so amazing is the juxtaposition of her soft, dreamlike aesthetic with the thoroughly intense subject matter that she employs—a contrast that could easily come off as contrived if not executed so beautifully....

Doug Cowan
(03 June 2008) - Doug Cowan is an artist's artist in the purist sense: an illustrator who truly loves his sketchbook. That said, the New York-based artist' work is clearly permeated by an overarching sketchbook aesthetic. Cowan doesn't so much sketch in his book than thoroughly loses himself in it. The result being the most hauntingly beautiful drawings of nature, forlorn figures and everyday ephemera....

Simboli Zodiac Posters
(29 May 2008) - With their offbeat colorways and swirling psychedelic imagery, it isn't any wonder that Paul Smith snatched up design duo Joe and Gerry Simboli's Zodiac posters and used them in his collections awhile back. Designed in the late '60s, the shapes and lines have a modern feel making for the perfect way to add a little neo-boho to your decor. Posters are 24" x 36",...

Rockwell x Alife x Patta: Everybody Mid Rap
(30 April 2008) - A collaboration between illustrator Parra Rockwell, Amsterdam's Patta and seasoned veterans Alife, the Everybody Mid Rap has some texture and color details that made me take notice. A mix of materials, including Nubuck suede, nylon and leather, compartmentalizes the vibrant, otherwise monochrome blue, making for an appealing contrast in textures. The clear sole, red trim and alternating lace holes are also an attractive touch....

A Paper Tiger
(24 April 2008) - A Paper Tiger is a new venture that launched in January of this year selling exclusive prints by some favorite artists such as Jack Long (pictured). Usually so-called printmaking and distributor sites are unimpressive, but these guys really seem to know what they're doing. With artists like Ken Garduno, Haubs, Tesslar Lo, Jeana Song and many more, A Paper Tiger is releasing extremely limited...

Von Totebags and T-Shirts
(24 April 2008) - Award-winning London based illustrator Von has long been a CH favorite so when he decided to launch a range of tees and totes we grabbed the chance to find out more. Why did you decide to brand into fashion now? As much as t-shirts have been done a million times before I still get excited when I come across a really nice design printed...

Sanna Annukka
(20 February 2008) - I first locked eyes on Sanna Annukka's beautiful designs when British band Keane commissioned her to create the artwork for their second album Under The Iron Sea. Frank Chimero: The States
(15 February 2008) - Chicago-based graphic gesigner and iIllustrator Frank Chimero's ongoing series of illustrations that playfully examine the shapes of the American states is a fun experiment in reimagining invented shapes. Inspired by a remark about how California looks like a snuffed out cigarette, Chimero decided to create illustrations assigning inanimate objects to the other 49 states. Oklahoma is a towel rack with "his" and "hers" towels;...
