Plug Independent Music Awards
(06 February 2006) - Any event that attempts to legitimize a category of music whose nature is to be on the margins bears a serious burden. The Plug Independent Music Awards (“Plugies,” as they might be called), which presented awards last Thursday, 2 February in NYC, managed to be an industry showcase without being too much industry. Sure, the third edition of this alternative event featured its share...

Great British Design Quest
(26 January 2006) - If you had to name countries famous for design, Italy or somewhere in Scandinavia would probably be the first places that spring to mind. But what about the U.K.? In the past century, British designers have hit the form/function bullseye more regularly then you might realize. London's Design Museum and the BBC's Culture Show are collaborating on the Great British Design Quest to discover...

Recycling Trash Can by Adriano Carvalho
(19 December 2005) - We love the simple and effective design of this recycling trash can by Adriano Carvalho. It won first prize in Brazil's Centre for Enterprise Commitment with Recycling's (CEMPRE) first "+Design -Waste" competition. The three separate trash areas stack for maximum efficiency. A tap on the pedal opens the top to each of the three bags, easily allowing the user to place their trash in...

(02 August 2005) - If you happened to catch Cool Hunting in the right moment a few weeks back you saw that we were running a Gorrilaz mash-up contest. Unfortunately we were asked to take the contest down after a day, but that didn't stop a bunch of readers from submitting entries. The good news is that we're still giving away the custom skate deck designed by Gorillaz...
