Tariq Duff
(21 December 2007) - For most of us our holiday snaps involve a few tourist-ridden temples, the beach, cocktails, the inside of a hotel room and some candid "look-at-my-tan" poses. Yet for London-based Tariq Duff, the images captured during his travels of the world have led to the Bahrain-native exhibiting around the world and selflessly donating any money earned to charities. CH caught up with Duff on a...

Steven Wilson
(20 December 2007) - Steven Wilson just did the latest cover for The Fader magazine which really caught our eye. Fader's art director (and occasional Lost At E Minor contributor) Phil Bicker led us to Wilson's website. We're really impressed with how prolific he is and how he's created his own style that looks a bit '70s mixed with right now....

Hong Hao
(19 December 2007) - Working out of Beijing, Hong Hao is known primarily for his laser scans of the ephemera accumulated in his lifetime. Each piece is an aggregation of items—passports, cosmetics, coins, Mao kitsch, all and sundry plastic knick knacks—that individually are unremarkable, but together tell the story of a person's life....

Jeff Bark: Woodpecker
(18 December 2007) - Jeff Bark's newest works are the subject of his solo show, Woodpecker, at the Michael Hoppen Contemporary Gallery in London; it's his second show at the gallery. Bark's newest works are so multilayered it makes my brain hurt—in the best way possible. The photos feel like part diorama, painting and film. His involved process includes constructing a pond-like set that took over a month...

(18 December 2007) - London-based illustration collective Peepshow has an amazing selection of art prints for sale on their website. The prints are made in a limited edition of 30 and are all signed and numbered by the artists. My favorites are Set Sail by Luke Best (pictured above center, £50), House by Lucy Vigrass (pictured above right, £50) and Vessels by Jenny Bowers (£75), which are individually...

(17 December 2007) - Os Gemeos, our favorite identical Brazilian twin artists Otavio and Gustavo Pandolfo, have many reasons to be excited about their new show, “The flowers in this garden were planted by my Grandparents.” First of all it's the duo's first solo museum show. Also, their good friend and mentor Barry McGee has previously showed at the Museum Het Domein. The twins pulled off a feat,...

The brainchild of two Brazilian designers, Julio and Vitor, the duo carefully select contributing artists based on their portfolios. After accepting an invitation to participate, artists receive a "label" (the theme of the issue) ranging from "Do What You Want and...

Duelity
(11 December 2007) - Created by Vancouver Film School students Marcos “Boca” Ceravolo and Ryan Ulrich, Duelity is a pair of short animations that describe the beginning of time from a creationist and evolutionist perspective. An ironic take on the subject, Duelity tells the creationist's version of the beginning of the universe using the language of science and presents the scientific cosmology of evolutionists using Biblical lingo. Beautifully...

Marcus Tremonto: Lightworks
(11 December 2007) - Working with light and illusion, NYC-based artist Marcus Tremonto further blurs that permeable line between art and design with his current exhibition, Lightworks, at Philips de Pury. The result of three years of work, the show of 16 sculptural forms, tables and lamps draws on both Tremento's "Fantasma" (ghost in Italian) and "Stitch" series which use electroluminescent material to evoke everything from traditional chandeliers to...

Everland Hotel
(10 December 2007) - by Tacita Vero Just opened, the Everland Hotel sits like a jewel on the roof of that treasure chest, the contemporary art space Palais De Tokyo in Paris. First installed in 2002 at other locations including the Museum of Contemporary Art in Leipzig, the Hotel is reaching its most stunning and coveted placement in the City of Light, oddly on the top of the 1930s...

Behind the Seen
(07 December 2007) - Artists best known for their work in public often have an entirely private body of work that doesn't make it out into view. Recognizing this, Michael DeFeo (the Flower Guy) assembled Behind the Seen, an international group show featuring rarely seen artwork not typically associated with the artists. Including work from Blek le Rat, Shepard Fairey, Ron English, Richard Hambleton, Keith Haring, Maya Hayuk,...

Running through 8 December 2007, daily tours include artists like RISD fallout Jim Drain and friend of CH Lynne Golub Gelfman whose process (as evidenced by the image of...

Matthew Woodson
(06 December 2007) - Matthew Woodson's illustration style doesn't exactly break new ground, but it's his rotoscoping-like technique we like most. Overriding themes include half-nude woman, tattoos, skeletons, violence and mystery, all of which we like and seek out. Check out more of his work on his website, ghostco, blog, with hands and hair (and eyes and bones and knees). You can also see his work in some...

André Rösler
(05 December 2007) - The extraordinary creatures created by the hand of André Rösler can be sweet, scary and beautiful—often all at the same time. This German illustrative artist, who forms one quarter of the group behind the Bastard Project, has a broad range of work including book illustrations, paintings and animation. But the work we love best are the large murals that he launches onto walls with...

Pieter Hugo: The Hyena Men
(04 December 2007) - Pieter Hugo is a South African photographer who has set out to photograph groups of people that have a distinct presence across Africa. His images of traditional healers, wild honey collectors, taxi washers, and albinos are strong and beautiful, but my favorite series is The Hyena Men which opened last week at Yossi Milo Gallery in New York. Pieter Hugo created the series The...

Polanoid
(30 November 2007) - Polaroid nerds of the world unite! Well it's no secret that I'm crazy in love with Polaroids. So as you might imagine, I was thrilled to bits to come across Polanoid—which it seems was created especially for Polaroid geeks like me. David Reed
(30 November 2007) - It's either the eye-pop effect of his palette or the graffiti tag sensibility of the brushstrokes that endear David Reed's new paintings to me. They just seem familiar. In what can feel like an austere and exclusive world of high culture and Chelsea art openings, his solo show opened with a mix of 20-something hipsters and beret-topped collectors. So it seemed like Reed achieved...
