The end of the year is as much about looking back as it is moving forward. And when the holiday music kicks up, the “Best Of” lists follow swiftly behind. Our friends at London-based publication It’s Nice That put together one of the most anticipated synthesises of the year gone by in all things related to the visual arts. The 2014 It’s Nice That Annual lives up to its reputation, with 130 projects and the people behind them profiled in the comprehensive tome. Notable graphic designers like Jessica Walsh run alongside with up-and-coming creatives, including this year’s crop of new diploma-holders, the It’s Nice That Graduates. Within the vibrant 300 pages, the hardcover also chronicles some of the year’s most influential exhibitions, including Matisse’s wildly popular cut-outs at the Tate Modern. New for 2014, It’s Nice That included a selection of their favorite magazine covers including one from CH standby Odiseo, published by Barcelona’s Folch Studio. Think of it not as a ranking of the year’s creative output, but an exceptionally well-composed and approachable snapshot.

Pick up It’s Nice That’s 2014 Annual from their webstore for £35. Each copy includes one of 50 signed postcards of original work from an artist featured in the book.
