The Four Seasons Restaurant

by Josh Rubin in Culture on 07 September 2004

If I had not attended a friend's wedding this past weekend, I would still be unaware of the brilliance that is the Four Season's Restaurant . Designed by Mies Van der Rohe and Philip Johnson in 1959, the entire space is spectacular, but the window treatments are what really blew me away. Delicate chains repeatedly drape across each of the 30 foot tall window panes. They are lit from above and the a/c vents are at the base. The result is a gently shimmering, animated effect-- a lovely kinetic compliment to the grand mahogany panels on the interior walls.
