The best creative tools have the power to appeal to all ages. Case in point: "Outside the Lines," a coloring book curated by Souris Hong-Porretta, featuring over 100 works of art by an equal number of contemporary artists, designers, illustrators, photographers and musicians.

Set for release 3 September 2013, the floppy-paged book features an often curious collection of existing and specially commissioned line drawings that open a world of opportunity to anyone wielding a crayon or marker.

Detailed sketches, architectural renderings and geometric drawings that looked to have been produced by an etch-a-sketch—the book's contents surprise and inspire through a unique world of creativity with each page turned. While recognizable works by Shepard Fairey, AIKO and Keith Haring hold a certain appeal, some of the more conceptual works are particularly interesting and engaging—from a basic blackened rectangle by Brion Nuda Rosch to David J. Weissberg's humorous head figure. The variation in drawings gives the user plenty of interesting options and, at the same time, an insight into the artist's opinion of just what a coloring book should entail.
