Diesel Summer Cultural Calendar

Jetsetting events bring art, music and adventure into your plans

by Largetail in Culture on 30 July 2013

Advertorial content:

Scents are built with an occasion in mind. From the shores of a Croatian beach music festival to ringside at a Muay Thai match on the Hudson River, your perfume is meant to prepare you for the next adventure. In that spirit, we've teamed up with Diesel to bring you an international calendar of events for the coming months as well as the scents to get you there.

Loverdose: Romance Away the Late Summer

Dimensions Festival in Croatia

Electric pink, sandy beaches, lasers—it must be an electric dance music festival in Croatia. Sporting some of the best tropical waters in the Mediterranean, Croatia is also home to Dimensions Festival, a wild party hosted from 4-9 September. Days blend into nights with music from the likes of Gilles Peterson, Theo Parrish, Daphni and Mount Kimbie.

Serpentine Gallery Pavilion

Londoners would do well to take a day to climb Sou Fujimoto's cloud-like architectural installation for the annual Serpentine Gallery Pavilion and take a moment to enjoy Hyde Park from the top. The clean, prismatic lines of structure—which is installed through 20 October—essentially make this a jungle gym built by and for architects. While romping around the installation, you'll find out what makes this the ideal "daycation" for London couples.

Venice Biennale

The force that is the Venice Biennale has already unleashed a slew of impressive art this year—not to mention Diesel's latest fragrance, Loverdose Tattoo. Photographer Richard Mosse's multi-screen infrared show "The Enclave" is one standout that offers visitors the chance to see the Congo's sweeping vistas—and ongoing violence—through stunning infrared film. Luckily, the event runs through 24 November 2013, giving you plenty of time to go check out what everyone's talking about. On top of that, it's an excuse to visit or revisit Europe's most romantic city.

Only the Brave: Punch Up the Season with Hardcore Culture

Rumble on the River

Sit ringside on 1 August 2013 at NYC's Pier 84 to watch boxers battle it out through the ancient sport of Muay Thai kickboxing. The event, free and open to the public, is returning to the Hudson River Park in NYC for a single day of bone-crushing sport in the heat of the summer. VIP seating is available ringside for a closer look at the flying fists of amateur fighters from the New York area.

diesel-calendar-burning.jpg
Burning Man

After over twenty years, Burning Man in Nevada's Black Rock Desert remains one of the top celebrations of art and community in North America. For three days in the lead-up to Labor Day, hordes of free thinkers invade the former lake bed to create a pop-up city. Rent a bike, ride a mutant vehicle, see some art and burn an effigy as you wave goodbye to summer at the end of August.

Bromo Marathon in East Java, Indonesia

Taking a flight around the world in order to run a marathon might seem counter-intuitive, but the crystal-blue skies of East Java have a major calling for international athletes, with 40% of the participants of the annual Bromo Marathon coming in from abroad. An added bonus to those who can withstand with punishing Indonesian course on 1 September 2013 is the view—complete with volcanoes, lush hillsides and more World Heritage Sites than you can shake a stick at.

Fuel For Life: Globetrot in Style from Slovakia to Pebble Beach

diesel-calendar-pebble.jpg
Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance

Refined curves and chrome highlights abound in this annual celebration of the best of vintage car design. Held on Sunday, 18 August 2013, Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance is an opportunity to see rare marques that have become iconic benchmarks in the history of automotive design—all in one of the most beautiful settings imaginable.

Outside Lands

Like a good scent, a good music festival is all about balance—spice needs to be rounded out with fruit and great music needs food to match the experience. San Francisco arguably knows food and music better than any other city in the US, so it's no surprise that Outside Lands offers an awesome lineup in conjunction with a wine, beer and outside art fest. The event is held in Golden Gate Park from 9-11 August 2013.

Vacation in Košice, Slovakia

Rugged and refined, Eastern Europe has been making its case for years now, emerging as a new hub for creativity in art and design. After being named this year's European capital of culture alongside Marseille, Košice, Slovakia has filled its yearly calendar with exhibitions, concerts and installations for visiting guests. Skip town for a weekend with a group of friends to experience the city and its cultural offerings, from live concerts to progressive theater.
