Bruno 9Li

by Phuong-Cac Nguyen
on 25 October 2007

Producing work that is wildly imaginative and meticulously realized, the Brazilian artist known as Bruno 9Li is the latest of the Rojo Magazine group to publish his own monographic book. Entitled Agora Eterno, the book's release is being paired with a month-long solo exhibit, Tormenta, being held in his hometown at the brand new Sao Paulo branch of Rojo's Artspace.

The theme encompassing the show is dark and metaphysical playing with ideas of "chaos, myth, streets, trance, death, rebirth, what is natural and supernatural,"—all reflections of Bruno's personal interests and spirituality. Incorporating painted flames that are sometimes fanned by floral tendrils, his works depict scenes in which every animal and anthropomorphic being is able to coexist with each other but is invariably enveloped in his own state of entropy. Using only basic, bold colors, Bruno 9Li sometimes paints on the walls behind his canvasses to further layer his work (right).

The exhibit opened on 23 October and runs through 24 November 2007. You can order his book, Agora Eterno at the Rojo Shop for 25€.
