Miniature brassieres make for elegant sculptures from Holly Laws

by James Thorne in Culture on 15 February 2013

Holly Laws is known for incredibly detailed, undersized sculptures and often takes on articles of women's clothing as her subject. Released yesterday for Valentine's Day, Laws' latest pieces are a pair of pink and black bras encased in glass jars and suspended from hooked stands. The enclosed icons are vaguely old-timey, reminiscent of a mother's intimates hanging on the line to dry. The detail of each stitch and flourish gives them a personality and a story, which the viewer is free to assign in their disembodied form.

The "Bras" series sells from Grey Area for $1600 each. See more of Laws' work over at Kathleen Cullen Fine Arts.
