Cool Hunting

A first generation Korean-American, Tim grew up on Blood Street in a small, old New England town. His environment provided the opportunity to pick and choose from two different cultures resulting in an eclectic mix of interests and characteristics.

After graduating from Skidmore College with a B.A in Biology-Psychology he traveled through S. America and Asia. An outdoor enthusiast now living in Brooklyn, NY, he worked in the Strategic Marketing Department of Warner Brother Records and followed it with a position at the Yale Medical School researching mechanisms of the next pandemic, Diabetes.

Don’t be fooled by his laid-back exterior; he fidgets and is easily bored. He enjoys playing fútbol and eating comfort foods (especially on Sundays). If he could, he’d have a new pair of socks for every day. He relies on his daily observations to hunt the cool but believes that anything can be cool given the right time, light and context.

Infinity Aquarium
Part of their Forever! series, BCXSY designed this polygonal aquarium so that fish endlessly swim around the geometrical shape. Similar to modern-day insane asylums, which are designed with connected lap-like hallways instead of dead end hallways, the fish can swim around in circles 'till their heart's content. It's hand-crafted from hand-cut glass and you can find more info and a video at BCSXY via...

Idiom 2009
Here's an early look at what's to come from one of our favorite snow wear brands Idiom. As we've come to expect from Burton's high end label, it seems as though designers Jeff Staple and Hiroshi Fujiwara have kept the 2009 line simple, attractive and technical, just the way we like it. Following suit with Burton's plans to become more environmentally responsible, going green...
Me No Speak
In preparation for an upcoming trip to Beijing, I was recently given a Me No Speak Language Companion. A twist on the traditional phrase book format and design, the Me No Speak book provides small illustrations labeled in both English and Chinese so that you can point to images when trying to communicate. This is especially effective when traveling to countries that use a...
Studio Matador Unfinished and Unpublished Notebooks
I go through a lot of notebooks whether just for doodling or to-dos. Lately I've been using one from the Unfinished and Unpublished series created in collaboration with Studio Matador. A numbered, limited-edition (500 of each version) collection of notebooks, they feature original art works from a variety of artists including Aussie streetwear designer Alpha 60, isis&pluto and Pandarosa, among others. All the notebooks...
Rockwell x Alife x Patta: Everybody Mid Rap
A collaboration between illustrator Parra Rockwell, Amsterdam's Patta and seasoned veterans Alife, the Everybody Mid Rap has some texture and color details that made me take notice. A mix of materials, including Nubuck suede, nylon and leather, compartmentalizes the vibrant, otherwise monochrome blue, making for an appealing contrast in textures. The clear sole, red trim and alternating lace holes are also an attractive touch....
