Indonesian Hakka / Parisian, marketing dilettante, from film and fashion in Singapore, to tv promos in Hong Kong, to media in Taipei. Occidental tourist, oriental master of ceremony, West-East impresario, noctambule filibuster, blurry conspirator, and intoxicating art director on impressionable minds. Wish I could freely roam my Malacca Straits as an (occasionally cannibal) counterfeits-smuggling pirate justicier..

Tretorn NY Store and Gullwing Collection
Along with the recent opening of Tretorn's first NYC store, their recently announced Autumn/Winter 2008 collection, called Gullwing, is full of shoes riffing on the preppy classic in ways we can get behind. The Skymra, for example, swaps out laces for asymmetrical elastic bands, transforming the classic silhouette of the tennis shoe into an avant-slip-on. The canvas version ($70) in bright yellow with a...

JetVegas, Zune Giveaway
Thrillist and Jetblue joined forces to create the boozy whirlwind forever to be remembered as JetVegas. It was a sponsor-laden 36-hour boondoggle from New York to Vegas and back, enjoyed by 150 media-types and those who love us. Whether we subscribe to the cliché or just had too much Skyy to remember, what happened in Vegas stays in Vegas. We teamed up with Zune...

Jawbone 2: Father's Day Giveaway
The latest and second iteration of the Yves Behar designed Jawbone, a mobile Bluetooth-enabled headset, delivers the superior sound quality and noise-canceling technology it's known for in a unit that's 50% of the size of the original. As a form factor, the subtle geometric texture on the diminutive curved earpiece makes it an object that doesn't offend the eye either. In use, we've found...

Deus Ex Machina Wearable Motorcycle Concept
Art Center College of Design student Jake Loniak combined motorcycle technology with an exoskeleton form for what is essentially a wearable motorcycle. Named Deus Ex Machina and branded by Yamaha, it's intended to serve as an extension of the body. Loniak found inspiration in Biomechatronics and used 36 pneumatic muscles, seven artificial vertebrae and two linear actuators to mimic human motion. He introduced the...

Schmap for the iPhone and iPod Touch
When we first learned about Schmap digital travel guides a couple years back, we loved the concept but were frustrated by the lack of options for Macs. With their new beta version for iPhones and iPod Touches, they've one-upped themselves by providing their interactive maps in a format designed to take advantage of the device's unique capabilities. Using the gyro feature and either a...

Muto: An Ambiguous Animation Painted on Public Walls
Blu has created one of the most incredible stop-motion animations I've seen. Painted on walls in Buenos Aires and Baden over this past winter, the piece features a black-and-white creature that morphs into various blobby forms. Starting off as a multi-armed monster, it constantly shifts with the most consistent tropes involving head changes—from spiky to cubed to round, etc. and sometimes devouring/birthing itself. There's...

Highlights from the Spring 2008 ITP Show
Our pilgrimage to the ITP show yesterday yielded more than a few great finds. From musical interpretations of an individual "color profile" and automated paintbrush robots to oversize models of a scrotum and a digital version of Exquisite Corpse, the projects (as usual) ran the gamut from the sublime to the absurd. Colorful Melody Colorful Melody analyzes a person's color profile based on their skin...

HTC Touch Diamond
This morning in London, mobile phone manufacturer HTC unveiled the Touch Diamond, a new Windows Mobile Device that looks great! Yes, I did just say "Windows Mobile" and "great" in the same sentence. Focusing on delivering a killer experience, the device features a highly customized version of Windows Mobile called TouchFLO 3D. All the most important functions are accessible from the home screen using...
