PSFK Snapshot Brooklyn by Nathan Suberi

psfkcover.jpg brooklynmap2.jpg

PSFK's new "Snapshot Brooklyn," breaks down the massive borough with a book of area highlights. The 60-page guide traverses a range of activities and interests, giving insider tips on the best eats, tunes, arts and otherwise desirable destinations in town.

A few of their insights make for a picture of Brooklyn that few know of, namely the thriving illegal bee keeping movement. Quirks aside, the book covers a plethora of more realistic information, with especially useful advice on where to find good music (see Death By Audio, The Bell House) and eccentric art (see Rubulad).

PSFK Snapshot: San Francisco Bay Area
Unlike the conventional tourist guide, the PSFK Snapshot doesn't aspire to be an exhaustive overview of the city. Instead, it serves as a compendium of what the writers consider the city's most interesting and original aspects. Or as they describe in their inaugural issue, it's "a collection of the most innovative businesses, events, organizations and ideas" that the San Francisco Bay Area has to...
Hg2 Travel Guides
We're digging the Hg2 series of travel books which take in Paris, London, Rome, Buenos Aires and Miami. The series comes in a half dust jacket (which apparently is meant to be removed once you've settled in to your vacation city), sitting over a Moleskin-like journal chock-full of insidery travel tips. It's fun and informal. A bit like the cities they cover. Hmmm. Now...
Le Cool Changed My Life
Like no other guide book you've seen, Le Cool Changed My Life. A Weird And Wonderful Guide To Barcelona didn't quite change my life but it certainly made my trip to Barcelona a lot more fun. The second edition is just out and British editor Andrew sent a few over for us to check out. The small hardbound guide may look like Mao's Little...
London Design Guide 2010
Just in time for visitors coming to London next week for the city's massive annual design event, the London Design Guide comprehensively lists the places, people and resources that celebrate design. The book organizes the destinations—boutiques, restaurants, hotels, galleries and more—by neighborhood, including a map of the locale and a local's narrative through it—naturally, all with a clean, well-designed layout. Abetted by editorial features...
