Cool Hunting
A modern contrast to the charming historic port of Saint Tropez, Hotel Pastis is an ideal setting for those who want to soak up some sun and take in a little rest and relaxation while keeping to the theme of a luxurious vacation in the south of France.
Run by a husband-and-wife graphic design duo from London, the completely renovated eight-room hotel feels like a quaint provençal B&B—but the contemporary art and Sex Pistols records adorning the walls tell a different story, much like the Space Invader tile hidden among the steps of the spiral staircase leading the way up to the rooms.
Situated within walking distance from the action of the marina, but the villa-style hotel keeps a tranquil ambiance with a majestic pool surrounded by towering palm trees, enticing guests to lounge around with a glass of local rosé.

The hotel strikes the perfect balance of classic French styling and modern amenities, with meticulous details throughout. Ornate doors open on to rooms with wood-beam ceilings, each including a terrace or balcony, with spatial bathrooms boasting heated towel racks, local toiletries and bathtubs large enough for two.
Prices vary between 175-600€, depending on season and size. Contact Mr & Mrs Smith for reservations.

On a recent trip to Paris I had the pleasure of staying at the boutique Hotel Sezz, located in the 16th arrondissement, steps from the Seine, about 400 yards from the Eiffel Tower and just a few blocks away from the #6 metro. For all that, the small boutique hotel is located on a tranquil, very residential street, making for a more authentic Parisian...
Like most of our favorite hotels, Barcelona's Me Hotel rivals the city itself with the various amenities if offers. The one-year-old Dominique Perrault-designed hotel surrounds guests with glittering steel walls and sliding panels of vibrantly colored Lucite, complimented by dramatic views of the city from almost every angle and lending an omnipotent feel. In the spirit of Barcelona's legendary nightlife and the beach vibe...
While in Austin recently, I spent a couple of nights at a beautifully designed new hotel called the Kimber Modern, located in the happening SOCO area, just a short hop, skip and sideways roll to the bustling hive of restaurants and cafes along South Congress. The hotel features more than a few twists, including stunningly elegant and contemporary architecture with subtle splashes of color...
In just a few short years since reopening to much fanfare in 2006, Ian Schrager's 184-room NYC Gramercy Park Hotel has already settled into its own distinctively regal Bohemian personality. A stay feels like a trip to a storybook castle—if artist Julian Schnabel (he's responsible for the interiors) played monarch of a country that includes Moroccan, Spanish, Italian and other influences. With a woodsy...
For a holiday spent taking in Barcelona's seamless blend of old and new architecture, food and sounds, the sublime Chic and Basic Hotel couldn't be more well-suited. Located in the trendy Born area, it's an ideal jumping-off spot for wandering the many narrow, meandering streets of the city's neighboring areas. But it's the hotel itself that symbolizes so much of what we consider Barcelona...
by Anna Chisholm In the midst of the Aegean Sea rests boutique hotel Perivolas on the chic island of Santorini. Formed entirely of volcanic rock and steeped in eons of history, the island is home to former fisherman’s cottages elegantly carved high into Santorini’s hillside. Just a short walk from the charming town of Oia, Perivolas' cluster of softly contoured caves totals 19 unique cocoon-like...
