Brown Wing Overdrive by Lost At E Minor
Last month I saw Brown Wing Overdrive open for Black Pus (the solo project of Lightning Bolt's Brian Chippendale). The band—which formed in DC and relocated to NYC—uses electronics, found objects, banjos, duck calls, jaw harps and whatever else they can get their hands on to make jerky, syncopated, yelping noise. At times referencing shamanistic traditions, at others drawing from Kabuki, the band doesn't quite sound like anyone else on their label, Tzadik. I wish more experimental bands would play around with vocals the way these guys do.

Human Host
If a bunch of monkeys had a bunch of typewriters, they might come up with Shakespeare, but if they had drum machines, broken synths, out-of-tune guitars and old Casio keyboards, they might end up with something that sounds like Human Host. The Baltimore band channels the languid sneer of the Stooges, the absurdist spazz-outs of Men's Recovery Project, and the sproing-y dissonance of Nervous...

Diego Stocco: Music From a Tree
Using everyday materials or whatever happens to be at hand, sound artist Diego Stocco makes his instruments out of the most unlikely of materials. More recently, the Italian-born sonic craftsman stepped outside to draw on his natural environment to create "Music from a Tree." Bowing, plucking and tapping the tree's trunk, branches and leaves, Stocco builds a a mini-orchestra of the most unlikely sort....

Rootbeer
Recently formed hip-hop duo, Rootbeer (Pigeon John and Flynn Adam), have just dropped a super fresh piece of audio pie right in your kitchen. Influenced by artists such as MGMT, N.E.R.D and A Tribe Called Quest, Rootbeer offer up an edgy and unfeigned lyrical style. Turn up their debut release, The Pink Limousine EP, to eleven. Brett Dennen
We asked Oakdale, California singer-songwriter Brett Dennen, who has one of the finest voices in contemporary pop-folk, about the humor which swirls amidst the brutal honesty of his lyrics, and whether he was generally a positive person by nature.I'm weird. I can be laid back, and I can be stressed. I can be positive, and I can be cynical. I think generally, I am...

Fergus Brown
Recently announced as the support for American singer-songwriter, Martha Wainwright on all eleven shows of her Australian tour, we checked in with Sydney-based songwriter Fergus Brown to get the inside story on his wonderfully quirky and catchy pop song, "Nerds In Love." It was was a fun song to write. Some songs can be tortuous but this was an imagined, tongue-in-cheek vignette of my...
