Recover Your Thoughts Recycled Notebooks by Evan Orensten

recover_your_thoughts.jpg

Recover Your Thoughts recycled notebooks are made in San Francisco by Doug, who removes the hard-bound covers of discarded library books and fills them with scrap paper from local printers and binds them. The notebooks are quirky and one-of-a-kind, and sometimes have artifacts like the used check out stub as seen in the book on the right, below.

The notebooks are available at several Bay Area bookstores and from Doug directly.

Our second Rough Cut video features a visit to San Francisco's Self Edge denim shop. Owner Kiya Babzani talks about denim, leather, obsession with detail and shows us some of the new collaborations they will be launching this fall. Kiya carefully curates what products the store carries, and specializes in brands that mostly use Japanese-made denim woven on looms from the 1960s and earlier....
Eric Scollon Ceramic Sex Toys
Our exploration of SF's Look boutique continues, leading us to local artist Eric Scollon's cock rings and butt plugs made of ceramic in the style of Tang dynasty blue-and-white pieces. The objects flirt "with the distinctions between art and craft, utility and uselessness and the boundaries between the world of art and the “real world.” Each one is unique, painted by hand and available...
Galen Trezise Crocheted Cozies
From the newly-opened Look boutique in SF, these handmade cozies have all the warm appeal of a sweater grandma made with an offbeat Dr. Seuss shape. According to the site, they're intended for vases but we think they'd be well-suited for dressing up a different household object that holds water and plant matter. With unusual colorways, ruffles and perforated weaves, they also hold their...
Carta, Inc.
I first discovered the delicate hand-bound books of Angela Liguori nearly eight years ago, while working at a design shop in Ann Arbor, Michigan, where she happened to be a resident teacher at Hollander's School of Book and Paper Arts. Now based in Boston, Angela continues to produce custom-made invitations, business cards and books through her graphic studio, Carta, Inc. In addition to her...
