Nixon Headphones by CH Contributor

What if Nixon, known for making watches geared toward design-sensible board sports enthusiasts, off-kilter iconoclasts and Tokyo drifters, among others, made headphones? What if they were compatible with that iPhone or BlackBerry you lug around everyday? What if they were beautiful and sounded like the third row at a Radiohead show? Well, It’s your lucky day.

The Encinitas, CA-based horologists have officially broken the mold with their global foray into sound. Two years of R and D in the making, the line consists of an over-the-ear, on-ear and in-ear range of DJ-quality headphones.

The material specs are sexy. With steel, full grain leather and fabric wrapped cables, they look more like the brainchildren of a Vespa-riding Milandese designer than the work of surf bums in SoCal.

True to their roots, they’ve also managed to tune the price-point at $40-$200, offering modernist high-fidelity for a fairly justifiable fee. The Master-Blaster (studio), The Nomadic (travel) and The Wire (pocket) launch later this month and will be available through Nixon's site and specialty retailers.
