Cool Hunting
Opening today at Character in Manhattan, the group exhibition Outside Of Sorts inaugurates The American Design Club, a new NYC-based organization spearheaded by the young, local designer Kiel Mead. The show takes on the idea of the outdoors and includes everything from pillow covered in remnant "Sunbrella" fabric with interior nipples to eyeglasses that simulate freckles.
We're so excited about their goal of bringing more attention to American design that we're sharing a few images from the show here. You can also view a gallery at the ADC site.

Just in time for the holiday season, R 20th Century Gallery in lower Manhattan has launched their first show geared toward small-scale objects. Perhaps realizing that these tough financial times make the gifting of rare vintage furniture less likely, R will be offering a wide array of objects and accessories for an equally wide variety of pocket books. Prices range anywhere from $15 to $10,000...
While it might seem untimely to mount an exhibition that celebrates opulence, there's no denying the appeal of Solange Azagury-Partridge's sensual jewelry. For "Unwearable Jewels," her debut U.S. solo show at Sebastian + Barquet, the designer translated her signature gestures into decorative objects for the home, including wall plaques, rugs, and furniture all detailed with precious and semi-precious stones. Having worked in jewelry design...
For their first large-scale exhibition in the U.S., Doshi Levien have taken over the first floor of Moroso's New York showroom. If the images in the slide show below are any indication, expect to see much more from this London-based duo in the coming years.Just over a year ago, Jonathan Levien and Nipa Doshi (the husband and wife team behind Doshi Levien) surged onto the...
We're always fascinated when the surreal and the practical intersect. That would explain our past delight with Blendie, a blender that responds to growling noises and is included in the upcoming group show, Untethered. Opening at Eyebeam next week in Manhattan the exhibit is promises a myriad of creative curiosities. With 15 artists on display, this season's offerings include a a photocopier that reads...
by Laurice Parkin First on our list of stops outside the Javits is the always brilliant design purveyor, Kiosk, who are kicking off the first of their "Mini-Exhibitions" today. The concept is simple: give space and support to people they like to showcase anything from a lecture to a film to a design project. We're excited to bring you an exclusive sneak-peak of the inaugural...
Almost all of the 14 artists and studios invited to be part of the Touch Design recycled-materials exhibit of products happening this weekend in NYC are Latin American, most notably Brazilian—something that could indicate where the pioneering trends in this area are coming from in the near future. Besides Estúdio Manus and Domingos Tótora (two names that have been getting more press recently) other...
