Geekhouse Bikes Powder Coating Graphics by Doug Black
Geekhouse just perfected a sublimated powder-coating technique that can recreate virtually any digital design on the surface of a bicycle. The Allston, Massachusetts company has been hand-crafting custom bikes for a number of years, but they debuted their new coating process on the track bike pictured above. Along with some unconventional touches (curved seat tube, triple triangle stays), they've coated the frame and front rim of the bike with a detailed paisley print that looks something like a classic bandanna.
In addition to most any color, the coating process can also work with chrome. Check out the Geekhouse site for other custom builds and look at more detailed images after the jump.

There's two different camps in cycling. The first seeks out every new, high-tech toy they can attach to their carbon fiber frame, while the other takes the opposite approach, stripping off anything that's not vital to its performance. These fixed-gear purists shun derailleurs, brakes and anything else that obscures the clean geometry of the bicycle frame. The latter group is the target audience of...

Light and Motion Seca 700 Cycling Light
Crossing the Williamsburg Bridge on my second night using the Seca 700 cycling light, I overheard an oncoming cyclist say to his friend, "Now that's a light." And what a light it is. Designed and manufactured in California by Light and Motion, a company with twenty years experience producing high-powered, tailored beam lighting for both diving and cycling, the Seca 700 is the ultimate component...

Dutch Bike Chicago
While in Chicago last weekend, I had the opportunity to stop by the Dutch Bike Company's brand new Midwestern outpost. Having already wooed Seattlites into adopting the European city bike, founders Stephan Schier and David Schmidt were looking for a second outpost. It turned out that a majority of their special orders were going to Chicago, a city that, under multi-term Mayor Daley's continued green...

Pins & Threads at London Design Festival
One of the highlights of the London Design Festival wasn't a big name or flashy product, it was a low-key installation from a young design graduate placed in a corner of Tent London. Easy to miss perhaps, but once seen it had people transfixed by its graphic beauty. Debbie Smyth was selected as one of the most promising graduates of 2008 for the Dezeen...

Strida MAS Special Folding Bike
Before I settled on my track bike, I gave serious consideration to a Strida folding bike. I was living in a tiny one bedroom and the Strida met the stowage criteria handily. Now a decade into production, Strida continues to impress with generational improvements, most notably an innovative new drive system. At this year's Interbike Expo in Las Vegas, which runs 24-26 September, Areaware...
