On a recent trip to Paris I had the pleasure of staying at the boutique Hotel Sezz, located in the 16th arrondissement, steps from the Seine, about 400 yards from the Eiffel Tower and just a few blocks away from the #6 metro. For all that, the small boutique hotel is located on a tranquil, very residential street, making for a more authentic Parisian experience.
Surrounded by other similar small-scale apartment buildings, the Sezz blends in with its classic-looking façade, but the inside is nothing but sleek, modern and pristine. Lacquered tables hold stacks of coffee table books and a curated selection of paintings and sculptures fills the lobby. I didn't use the flat screen TV or DVD library too much but the firm mattress was very comfortable. An abundance of natural light in the room during the day was easily blacked-out by curtains ensuring a good night's sleep. The best features of the room had to be to the French doors leading out to the balcony and also the huge bathroom which consisted of a dual-head shower, a three-foot deep square stone tub and Kiehl's products.
With 27 rooms and several suites—most with balconies and some with views of the Eiffel Tower—the hotel is small enough to provide each guest with a personal concierge assistant and just big enough to allow a sense of personal independence.
Visit Mr & Mrs Smith for a detailed review of Hotel Sezz including a list of other boutique hotels in Paris in case the Sezz is filled up.

by Tacita Vero Just opened, the Everland Hotel sits like a jewel on the roof of that treasure chest, the contemporary art space Palais De Tokyo in Paris. First installed in 2002 at other locations including the Museum of Contemporary Art in Leipzig, the Hotel is reaching its most stunning and coveted placement in the City of Light, oddly on the top of the 1930s...
Nestled in a garden down a secret cobblestone path off Avenue Junot in Paris' Montmartre lies the impossibly charming five-room Hotel Particulier. CH had the privilege of staying there recently (courtesy of the hotel, which just opened its doors in June) and enjoyed the luxuriously appointed rooms and movie-perfect setting—the adjacent pétanque court being the cherry on top of the cake. With a well-curated...
Treatments at the first organic spa in Paris, L’Appartement 217, are so intricate they seem like they might be answers to eternal youth. Proprietor Stéphane Jaulin studied the biology of epidermal rejuvenation, arriving at the perfect menu of revivifying regimens. He offers them in a Parisian apartment space designed under the watchful eye of a Feng Shui master. Revered Dr. Hauschka’s treatments by Wala...
Montaigne Market in Paris blooms like a garden of fashion between the conservative, single-brand storefronts of Montaigne Avenue. As the first multi-marque in the city of lights, the store engineers a confluence of current and classic styles from Paris, London, California, and New York. The 4,000 square foot space encourages mixing and matching of designers in different price tiers, an increasingly popular strategy put...
I had the pleasure of spending this past weekend at the boutique Grand Hotel Central situated in the Gothic Quarter of Barcelona. The Grand has pulled off the rare feat of blending in completely with the city, making a stay in the hotel a perfectly subtle complement to one of the most exciting cities in the world. The hotel is constructed in the shell...
by Juliet Kinsman Cobbled and colonial but also contemporary and quirky, I recently had the chance to stay at the brand-new Douro Valley hotel, Quinta da Romaneira. From one look at the interior design it's clear that super-picky attention to detail is paramount. Thierry Teyssier, the creator of Quinta dos Sonhos (Romaneira's Portuguese name) considered every color, visualized every view, procured the highest spec...
