In the infinite quest to find the most obscure curative health food, TerrAmazon makes a convincing case. With goji berries fast becoming a household name, the creators of TerrAmazon had to explore remote corners of the Amazon rainforest for their snacks.
Take their Organic Yacon Slices, for example. Recently rediscovered as a superfood, the indigenous Andean tuber is sliced and then partially dried. The result is small, pliable slices not unlike flower petals in proportions. They have a subtle melon flavor and are remarkably satisfying for a food with only 16 calories a serving. It's also probiotic (which aids in digestion) and helps the absorption of minerals like calcium and magnesium.
We also tried two varieties of their Cacao Nibs — one with pineapple and the other coconut and raisins. Both use "criollo," one of the rarest and most sought-after varieties of cacao. Sweetened with a bit of sugar cane syrup, they're crunchy, addictive snacks that can be enjoyed alone or added to a cereal or desserts.
All products are harvested under fair trade farming methods and are certified both kosher and organic. We've spotted TerrAmazon products at Whole Foods, as well as other independent grocers in New York. You can also order straight from the source at their website.

We were expecting a total disaster when we tried these chocolate tortilla chips from FoodShouldTasteGood. Finding the balance between salty and sweet is always a challenge and often disappointing. These chips deliver both in creating a chip on the edge. They are salty enough to accent the corn and the crunch, and just chocolately enough to be noticed and appreciated without being sweet or...
Decadence takes many forms (and for some reason we seem to be fairly expert at several of them). Schwartz Crunchmallows are our latest obsession. Made in New York by the Schwartz family since 1939, these insanely delectable marshmallows sit atop a thin toffee wafer and are coated in semisweet chocolate. Other varieties include marshmallows with a caramel bottom, and plain marshmallows in eight flavors....
I'm a fan of all things that mix sweet and salty, so when I first tasted the rising confectionary trend combining chocolate, sea salt, and caramel, I was hooked. Fran's Chocolates, a company based out of Seattle, just kicked it up a notch with their introduction of a version that utilizes smoked Welsh sea salt. Sweet and complex, the savory punch perfectly compliments the...
I'm really excited that more and more companies are creating "adult" food products that hit the sweet spot without pummeling you with extra sugar, HFCS, additives and preservatives; companies like GuS, and Fizzy Lizzy come to mind. Add to this growing cateogory my new favorite popcorn snack, Cocoa Coal from LesserEvil. Once you get beyond the name and the packaging you'll discover popcorn that...
Normally bakeries aren't run by two guys formerly in the advertising industry, but Baked isn't a normal bake shop either. The Brooklyn dessert destination houses cakes like "Sweet & Salty!" and "Oopsy Daisy," "Monster" cookies and giant marshmallows, leaving us thinking guys should bake more often. While we'd love to bask in the glory of these rich, delicious desserts everyday, it's likely best they're...
Finally, chocolate is no longer a guilty pleasure. Le Whif, which just launched yesterday, combines chocolate and aerosol science with their zero calorie chocolate inhaler. Beginning in the spring of 2008 as part of a culinary art experiment executed by Harvard professor David Edwards and his students, the innovative concept moves "eating habits to their logical conclusion." While we've yet to actually try the chocolate,...
