Cool Hunting
Surfing, more than many other sports, is both more closely connected to and heavily dependent on the health of the planet, yet the industry's been slow to get away from the use of toxic and harmful materials in boards. This is mostly due to the fact that untraditional materials just don't perform as well. A great eco-friendly alternative without compromising board performance is Gary Linden's Custom Agave Singlefin.
Made from dead Agave harvested from SoCal deserts, it's a sustainable and extremely durable material that provides a bit of flexion. Each agave board takes over 60 hours to shape making for a smooth ride in a variety of conditions. More importantly, Agave is a light material that greatly outperforms the heavy wood boards of the past making people rethink the wood surfboard.
Crafting surfboards since 1967, all are custom and original productions. For more info visit Linden Surfboards. Price of the Agave Singlefin is available upon request.

While sheer beauty of the sloping wooden forms is enough to sell us on Grain Surfboards, their non-traditional approach—skipping the foam makeup of other boards in favor of a Northern White Cedar and air composite—makes a pretty good case for them too. The upshot is a gorgeous and sustainable product, made by a couple of East Coast surfers. After years spent riding the waves...
Last year, German design firm Transalpin conceived a way to pass electricity through wood and named it Wood.e. The 12V current doesn't actually pass though the wood; there's conductive material layered in to the plywood. This year, they created Living In a Box (above) as an example of how this innovative material could be applied. Normally separate pieces, chairs, tables, lamps and shelves, are...

ID Prints extreme-sports action images are cause for any radical aesthete to rejoice. Their purchasable posters are "staccato-quality offset prints," or in other terms, they are crisp and clean. Produced using only first-rate materials and processes these posters offer both action and integrity that is hard to match. As action sports have grown so has the demand for posters of these leading athletes. Taking...
Coined the "survival suit," Helly Hansen's Ocean Racing Suit offers little for average Joes whose biggest challenge is a case of the Mondays, but it will protect the brave—if not a bit insane—sailors as they race around the world, facing extreme weather conditions and dangerous speeds. A pivotal part of the off-shore racing circuit for the past 30 years, Helly Hansen's survival suit is...
