Caleb Neelon Is Working On It by Lost At E Minor

Massachusetts-based artist Caleb Neelon is staging his first West Coast exhibition, "Caleb Neelon Is Working On It" at West Hollywood's Carmichael Gallery opening this weekend. The solo show includes several variations of his groupings of multi-colored Beech leaves against brushy backgrounds and marks, in Neelon's own words, "a new and very personal direction for me." In conjunction with the show, the artist is also painting a mural on a nearby building (see below).

In addition to his prolific fine art work, he was the author and illustrator of the children's book, "Lilman Makes a Name for Himself," co-authored "Street World," and has a new book of his art coming out this year through Ginko called "Caleb Neelon's Book of Awesome."

Jimenez Lai
A simple description of Jimenez Lai's work is difficult. Taking architectural plans and renderings, the Ohio-based artist brings them into the world of comics, drawings and models in two- and three-dimensions. The juxtaposition exposes the absurdity of CAD in comics and comics in CAD. (Click image for detail.) This isn't the first time Jimenez Lai has been written up but now he's breaking through...
Two Lines Align: Drawings and Graphic Design by Ed Fella and Geoff McFetridge
I've always been drawn to the ambiguous nature of Geoff McFetridge's graphic design. His distinctive, and highly personal, visual language, built around "logofying ideas," reduce graphical narratives to the point where meaning is largely derived from the viewer's own imagination. Opening this Wednesday at the Redcat Gallery in downtown Los Angeles, an exhibition features his work alongside the veteran visual artist Ed Fella. Fella's...
Swoon: Drown Your Boats
Swoon's first Los Angeles solo exhibition, "Drown Your Boats" opens tomorrow, 16 February 2008 at New Image Art. Partially inspired by Angela Carter's collection of short stories "Burning Your Boats," which reinterprets traditional tales and twists the mundane, you can see the connection as Swoon work combines glimpses of everyday life, legends and variations on mythic themes in her own graceful style. Over the...
