Mastihashop by Letizia Rossi

Recently opened on Manhattan's Lower East Side, the Mastihashop is the Greek company's first U.S. boutique. The shop specializes in all manner of products made with Mastiha, an all natural antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial resin which can only be harvested from the sap of evergreen bushes found exclusively in the southern part of the Greek Island of Chios. In use for 2,500 years as a nutritional supplement and beauty product, the resin freshens breath, fights plaque and gingivitis, heals and regenerates skin, relieves ulcers, eases digestion and strengthens hair and nails. Found in everything from pasta sauce, wine and chewing gum to scented candles, lotions and cosmetics, Mastiha has over 300 known applications.

Headed by sisters Kalliopi and Artemis Kohas who grew up with Mastiha as a staple, the Orchard Street shop carries a wide variety of products. Some of our favorites include the Korres line of beauty products, the Mastiha toothpaste with chamomile and spearmint and the chocolate-covered pistachio bonbons.

With films, furniture design, architecture and their own world-class publication, it's lifestyle branding that we can actually get behind. Opened yesterday in New York City, their...
Just Opened: Oak
By Christina PanasJust five years after opening their flagship Williamsburg boutique, and on the heels of a Park Slope outpost, Oak co-owners Louis Terline and Jeff Madalena are making that first East River crossing with sleek new digs in NoLita, a shop that opens officially on Monday. "It happened quickly," says Terline, when asked how long the latest store had been in the works. "This...
Reed Barrow: Monument to an Amaranth
Another experiment in reinventing the screen, New York-based sculptor Reed Barrow's LED chandelier, dubbed "Monument to an Amaranth," functions as a 360 degree display, playing a 12-minute video loop of abstract imagery. The teched-out fixture is a departure from Reed's other recent work, which tends toward absurd cultural interpretations (like a life-size werewolf sleeping in the web of a phosphorescent dream-catcher). Monument also has...
Despaña
Thank your lucky chorizos for the food boutique Despaña. A longstanding favorite of Soho shoppers looking for respite in a neighborhood now littered primarily with luxury clothing brands, the shop specializes solely in imported Spanish foodstuffs. In addition to a delectable array of canned, dried, and cured goods, they also offer a tasty selection of prepared food, such as bocadillos, tortillas, and salads for...
