Karim Rashid x Veuve Clicquot Globalight by Ami Kealoha

Launching tonight as part of Milan's furniture festivities, the latest collaboration with leading designers and the second with blob lord Karim Rashid and Veuve Clicquot is this reinvention of a chandelier in the form of a glowing pink champagne holder that doubles as a cooling tote. The design, an asymmetrical sensual ellipse, was the result of Rashid's initial scribble after asked to meld the immaterial and the material like he'd done with his first project for Veuve, the loveseat. Realizing his doodle was "the idea in itself," the Globalight literally circles the champagne and adds ambient illumination that plays off the pink hue of Ros champagne, for which it was designed.

Bringing lighting experts Zumtobel into the project, the lamp-cum-basket uses technology to light up without heating and in fact keeps bottles at the ideal temperature for up to two hours.

See the wonderfully surreal photos for the campaign after the jump.

Limited to a run of 500 (only 50 of those will be available for the U.S. market), the Globalight will be available on Eclicquot in May for $4,000.

Georg Jensen x Brooks Saddles x Sögreni Wheels Bicycle
We liked the Georg Jensen x Brooks Saddles x Sögreni Wheels bicycle collaboration when it was announced last fall. Now that we've had the opportunity to see one of the 14 limited edition fixed gear bicycles in person we really like it. It makes sense that Georg Jensen reached out to Sögreni (both are Denmark-based). The bicycle is basically a Sögreni Classic with a...
Beth Lipman x Steuben Glass: Still Life Collection
For several years, glass artist Beth Lipman has been reinterpreting classical still life painting with her carefully constructed assemblages of glass objects. An artistic practice that emerged in 17th century Europe, still life painting represented not only a formal and technical evolution in the medium, but a distillation of the political, moral and religious values of both artist and patron. By transforming the still life...
Schimmel/Colani Pegasus Grand Piano
A collaboration between Italian designer Luigi "Allergic to Straight Lines" Colani and German piano-makers Schimmel in the late 1990s, the Pegasus grand piano looks like something you'd see on a Star Trek set. Updates to the classic form include a slightly curved, ergonomic keyboard (eliminating any need for the player to move their body), an electrically-controlled hydraulic lid (to control projection) and a fully...
