Following last year's debut of the Botanist Line, this year Orange 22, Dario Antonioni's LA-based design studio, will reveal the Botanist "Blank Canvas" Series at the ICFF and we're pleased to bring you the exclusive sneak preview. Eight collaborators were tasked with putting their own design mark on the simple shapes made from single sheets of aluminum. The diverse line-up of creatives includes the iconic Milton Glaser (I heart NY) to the ubiquitous Karim Rashid (most recently of the cone-shaped Dirt Devil fame). (Rashid's design pictured above right, Glaser's below left. See more images and details after the jump.)
But, these innovators will be doing more than just putting their own artful spin on the simple, organic-inspired forms. Each will choose a charity of their choice and Orange 22 will match their profits for donation. It is a unique collaboration of both altruism and creativity.
For Antonioni, the Botanist line, which is manufactured in all ways green, is also a way for the design community to give back. As he puts it, "Creativity empowered for positive change." It's always good to know that design is doing more than just making your living space look hot.
If you can't wait to purchase a Blank Canvas Series, you can check out Botanist at a store near you. Look for Orange 22's Blank Canvas Debut at ICFF, 17-20 May 2008 at the Javits Convention Center, NYC.

Much like their wildly successful diffusion lines with fashion designers, Target's new line with Dror Benshetrit signals a willingness to take on smaller industrial designers than they have previously and package them for the masses. Of the upcoming collection of bedding, furniture and stationery, all designed with small spaces in mind, we think the Stack bookcase ($90, due out later this month) is the...
Luxury loafer extraordinaire Tod's teamed up with the equally remarkable and stylish design and furnishings group Cappellini during this year's Salone Internazionale del Mobile in Milan. Part of an ongoing project (Tod's president Diego Della Valle tasked his friend Giulio Cappellini with curating their windows starting in 1998),the Via della Spiga storefront will display their classy JP Loafer alongside eleven chairs chosen by Cappellini,...
B&B Italia will be showing off their latest version of Antonio Citterio's J.J. armchair, this time in rocking form, at the global furniture and interior design fair, imm Cologne this month. After much success with the initial chromed iron chair in 2005 and its Mongolian fur follow-up in 2007, they've reinvented the form once again, this time coming even closer to their goal of creating...
Los Angeles-based glass artist Alison Berger creates glass forms that transform mere lights, vessels and objects into timeless poetic expressions. Her recent collection of bottle-shaped vessels for the L.A. design mecca, Blackman Cruz, is an exercise in balance. Combining the lightness of blown-crystal with the weightiness of hand-formed solid crystal, the objects allude to the momentous developments in alchemy and still life painting centuries ago....
Known for their superior quality leather goods and elegant designs, luxury handbag pioneer Delvaux reached another level of sophistication by asking Belgian industrial designer Stefan Schöning to recreate his "Folder Chair" using Delvaux's black Taurillon leather. Inspired by Japanese Origami and made by hand, material flexibility was a key factor in achieving the complex folds used in the understated design. Originally made from polypropylene,...
By Paolo Ferrarini of Future Concept Lab In Milan it's unusual to find "non-Milanese” design, meaning design that's not linear, clean or somehow a reinterpretation of classic pieces and brands. Decidedly untraditional, Wozzup Mutazionidinterni is the refreshing exception to this rule. Former set designer Luca Porcelli and Maurizio Duranti, an ex-graphic designer, founded Wozzup in 2007. They work and exhibit their furniture, paintings and objects...
