Poetry Nightstand by Doug Black

A surefire way to impress that guy or girl you take home Friday night is to stack scholarly books on your bedside table, as if you casually dropped them there after breezing through some weighty tome on relational aesthetics or quantum theory. For those without the time or brain capacity, you may consider the Poetry Nightstand, designed by Marian Lassak. Although it's not a very good read, it has the appearance of a pile of bound volumes, while serving a more utilitarian purpose. In addition to propping up a lamp, it's equipped with four small drawers where you can store "personal items" or hide your trashy romance novels.

You can find the Poetry Nightstand, as well as other designs by Marian Lassak, at the Slovak design store ComuniStar.

Juxtaposed: Religion
The first in a series of conceptual shelves called Juxtaposed by design duo Mike and Maaike, this shelf brings all the major religious texts (the Bhagvad Gita, Bible, Qur'an, Confucious' Analects, the Tao Te Ching, Discourses of the Buddha and The Torah) together and puts them on the same level. For atheists and believers alike, the Religion shelf's an artful comment on the many religions...
