Lichtinfusion Lamp by Tim Yu

Even if you don't have a strange affinity for hospitals, you might like the Lichtinfusion Lamp by Christain Maas. With lights that hang like old-school glass bottles of saline, I love that the IV rubber tubing doubles as the power cord. If I was designing it, I'd add more realistism by adding wheels like real IV systems allowing patients to go for walks. A version where the light source was designed to emulate the present day plastic bags of saline wouldn't be bad either.

Poetry Nightstand
A surefire way to impress that guy or girl you take home Friday night is to stack scholarly books on your bedside table, as if you casually dropped them there after breezing through some weighty tome on relational aesthetics or quantum theory. For those without the time or brain capacity, you may consider the Poetry Nightstand, designed by Marian Lassak. Although it's not a...

Tom Dixon: Beat Collection
Named "Beat" for their hand-beaten production method, Tom Dixon's series of lamps and vessels is quickly becoming an iconic part of his oeuvre. After years of working in relative obscurity, Dixon is now something like England's national poster child of design. From his massive light giveaways during London's design week to limited edition copper-clad chairs and private member's club interiors, the designer seems to...

Pebble Carpet and Long Life Light
Generally, I resent being tricked by household objects masquerading as something they're not. That said, I'm hard pressed to get mad at this unassuming pile of stones. What appears to be solid rock is actually a cushioned wool rug. Each "stone" of the Pebble Carpet is hand-crafted of merino wool and attached with an internal cord. Designed by Ronel Jordaan in Johannesberg, South Africa,...

P.A.M. x Undercover Shade Lamp
Using macabre imagery to form an eerily symbolic sculptural piece, Jun Takahashi of Undercover joined forces with P.A.M. to create the Shade Lamp. The scene depicts a tree growing out of (or through?) a skull in a cemetery somewhere with the branches (fittingly) holding the shade. For mood lighting, I like the green and gold eyes, but my favorite part of the lamp has...

The Plumen Project: Hulger
When it comes to the lightbulb we've been left with an egg shaped bulb since it's invention. More recently we are seeing the ice cream whip shape of compact fluorescents, but for the iconic symbol of an idea it lacks any innovation. Hulger is determined to change this. Taking advantage of the tubular characterisitc of the compact fluorescent, Hulger recently initiated the Plumen Project,...
