Cool Hunting
In between watching 1080s galore at the U.S. Open a couple weeks backs, I had the chance to demo some of Burton's gear due out for the 2009 season. Most noteworthy is their Infinite Channel System (ICS) and Extra Sensory Technology (EST)—an integrated board and binding system. Reducing the binding mount to two screws, thus eliminating the plate from under your boot. Debuted for this past 2008 season, the system allows for even and consistent contact to the board resulting in superiority sensitivity for a more intimate ride. It also allows for a more customized fit by increasing the range of stance options and making it much easier to move between them.
For 2009 the Infinite Channel System is available on a few more decks, including the Un Inc. Playful and responsive enough for the park but stiff enough for the whole mountain, it was a zippy ride that I had a great time on. Coupled with the new CO2 bindings, which are now EST ready, the set-up was light, tight and comfortable; I think I might have found my ride for next year.
No word on price just yet, but keep a lookout for these next season.

Here's an early look at what's to come from one of our favorite snow wear brands Idiom. As we've come to expect from Burton's high end label, it seems as though designers Jeff Staple and Hiroshi Fujiwara have kept the 2009 line simple, attractive and technical, just the way we like it. Following suit with Burton's plans to become more environmentally responsible, going green...
Eighties revivalism continues and when done right we enjoy seeing the era reinvented in design, fashion, music, etc. Better yet, a reissue celebrates originals and maybe even better still, adding new details to classics modernizes them for a fresh look with all the functionality we expect out of today's gear. Specifically, we're talking about Burton's new Archive Series Collection, a line that pulls out...
I used to make fun of people who wore denim on the slopes, but Burton recently made it more functional with this first edition Gore-Tex LTD Grail Denim Jacket and Pant.Denim alone is probably the worst thing you could wear in cold and wet conditions, however an exclusive collaboration with Gore-Tex gives Burton the sole rights for two years to use their technology that...
Last week we were invited by our friends at Burton to go up to Killington, VT to try out the new Stash trail which opened early this year. Taking riding back to the roots of freestyle, the Stash run strategically weaves it way down a wooded trail offering a mix of terrain, hits, rails, jibs, powder shots and even a small cabin for the...
The end of September is not too early to start thinking about keeping warm on the cold winter city streets. It also isn't to early to think about getting back on the mountain for fun on the board. These two pursuits became one when I found these gloves from Burton. The AK Leather Tech Glove is meant to be a killer park glove, but...
A first look at a new initiative by Burton, Private Stock is an extremely limited collection of products available exclusively at a select group of 100 specialty retailers worldwide. For the launch of Private Stock, Burton collaborated with one of Cool Hunting's favorites, Ron English. Known for his politically charged illustrations and subverted billboards, English's works are used on the Burton Hero (pictured right)...
