A recently-launched brand of high-fashion, vegan footwear based in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, Cri de Coeur was founded by longtime vegan and Parson School of Design graduate Gina Ferraraccio. Borrowing a name from a French expression which means "to cry from the heart," the (mostly) made-in-Portugal line is Ferraraccio's response to the lack of stylish shoes that are both ethically-produced and animal-friendly. Partnering with The Carbon Fund to offset her inevitable carbon footprint, Ferraraccio also pledges to plant a tree for every shoe sold.
For me personally, socially conscious means of production would mean little if it wasn't for the exquisite craftmanship and blatant sex appeal. The Scout, a very "now" ankle boot made from sueded microfiber is surprisingly sturdy and comfortable to wear. The Adrina a strappy canvas gladiator wedge combines 1940s glamour with a very wearable contemporary style.
Available at Archangela in Williamsburg.

The removable metatomical footbed—made from jute, cork and natural latex—helps mold...
Earnest Sewn and French footwear company Repetto are collaborating for limited-edition eco-friendly shoes as part of Barneys "Greencaste" line. Together they enlisted Cone Denim, the country's oldest denim factory (and the same one that's behind Loomstate's green jeans for Barneys), to ensure a 100% organic product. In fact throughout the entire weaving process, starch is the only addition to the natural fiber. Read more......
