Straight Line Designs is a custom furniture design and manufacturing company whose designs are always quirky and whimsical.
Based in Vancouver, British Columbia, the company is owned and operated by Judson Beaumont, who finds much of his inspiration in childlike imagery, and many of his designs have been greatly influenced by his kids and their liberal acceptance of the bizarre. In his world of odd furniture, cabinets can look as if they are exploding or melting, and tables take the form of a dog peeing on your carpet.
My two personal favorites by far are the fully functional carrot go-cart and the amazing pet camper, which is a small, highly-detailed replica of an airstream trailer for your dog.
Check out more of their designs and custom projects on their website.

If you haven't seen the video demonstrating Molo's flexible paper seating, it's worth checking out for the charming mother and daughter sitters alone. And if you haven't already heard about the product, Paper Softseating is made entirely from kraft paper and acts like a slinky. Flexible honeycomb structures enable the stools, benches and loungers to change shape so they can be used creatively and...

Also recently debuted, Ooba's Nest Crib converts into a day bed...
Ducduc is a NYC-based design collaborative that creates children's furniture, textiles and accessories using durable, eco-friendly materials including sustainable hardwoods. Their new walnut dining room table solves the familiar problem of what to do with the kids during meals. Panels on the table rotate between wood (suitable for adults) and white board (perfect for kids) on the other. Underneath the panels are built-in storage...
An antidote to everything cutesy and traditional that typically goes along with parenting, the baby revolution continues to grow, fueling more chic design and with it shifting ideas about raising children. Such is the case with Nest, the debut line from Ooba, a Chicago-based furniture company founded by pro-designers Scott Wilson, Kathleen Brandenberg, and brand strategist Dan Kraemer (all first-time parents). The trio's first...
Nurseryworks makes all kinds of stylin' gear for babies with great taste. One of our favorites is this Platform crib, which comes in several hip colors. You can select the style of the slats, the type of wood, and even convert it to a bed when the time comes. Their sheets and furniture are equally impressive. The crib is around $900 depending on materials...
Wowbow's first line of beautiful modernist pet furniture is named for Mija, the creator's rescue dog. Similar to many new pet owners, Kim and Richard Bull were dissatisfied with their options for dog beds and feeding bowls. As good designers do, they channeled that frustration in to the creation of new product. The Mija Bed and Dining Table are both made from 10mm thick...
