Steven Harrington by Letizia Rossi

Since we first heard about L.A.-based artist and designer Steven Harrington's work, he's apparently been busy. Some of his latest illustration recently reached my desk in the form of a beautiful holiday calendar from Daub and Bauble. Created at the Studio on Fire letterpress, Harrington's design features a proud peacock with Day of the Dead-style skulls. (Pictured above right.)

Harrington, along with fellow artist Justin Krietemeyer, is the co-founder of National Forest Design whose projects include the Urban Outfitters Catalogs, Burton Snowboards and the Nike Ole Mural. Drawing influence from images, fashion and graphics discovered in Time Life Encyclopedias from 1965-1972, thrift stores purchases, and music of The Moody Blues, Harrington uses the term "contextual objectivism" to describe his work.

With projects ranging from participation in the Arkitip "Highmath" group exhibition in Berlin, a collaboration with Kidrobot, and a new series of skateboards for Element, Harrington's own 2008 calendar should be extremely full.

Harrington also has three t-shirt designs available from Sixpack France.

Colorado native Evan Hecox never ceases to amaze me with his design skills and his brilliant screen prints. He has done t-shirts and skateboard designs for skate companies like Chocolate and Girl. I keep seeing his work pop up all over--once even I spotted his work behind glass in the Denver Airport on my way home. This one is a limited edition print for...
ID Prints
ID Prints extreme-sports action images are cause for any radical aesthete to rejoice. Their purchasable posters are "staccato-quality offset prints," or in other terms, they are crisp and clean. Produced using only first-rate materials and processes these posters offer both action and integrity that is hard to match. As action sports have grown so has the demand for posters of these leading athletes. Taking...
Sofia Maldonado: Skate My Patria
by Tamara Warren Brooklyn-based artist Sofia Maldonado sees the world from the point of a 32-inch deck on four wheels, exploring the counter culture surrounding skateboards in much of her work. The muralist and painter transforms abandoned swimming pools into fantastical oases that serve as bowls for masterful tricks and reconfigures banal plywood ramps with interconnected shapes. Her imagery documents the rebellious spirit of the...
Skate Study House Furniture Collection: The Waste is The Best
